  1. Or perhaps £9 plus 25p for plastic bags
  2. If anyone has lost or misplaced a wonderful big black cat near Winkwell marina, Bourne End, I have it here on my lap. She\he wandered on my boat tonight and made it's self at home. It's fine.
  3. Hi all, I have a Hyundai 3kw petrol generator and after the Crick show, I am seriously thinking of getting a conversion kit to LPG. Does anyone have any knowledge, pros or cons against conversion. I realise the first pro is no more petrol storage on the boat and the need for looking for a petrol station to fill up. I have been quoted around £200 for the conversion kit which I think is pretty reasonable which will include all pipes, regulator and gas controller. Any comments please.
  4. I have emailed the Dudley Trust with a query about said cover. Hoping for a reply.
  5. I bought a Ryobi drill, hand vacuum cleaner and jigsaw plus battery and charger from B & Q a few years ago for around £80 all in. They have done me proud since !!
  6. Hi all, I would just like to add my 5 pennyworth to this discussion. Police have the right to enter ANY property as long as they have GROUNDS to believe that there is evidence or actual physical proof that a crime has been committed. They can do this without a warrant as the badge they have in their possession is a warrant. They would also should be able to realise that storming down a door of a flat or house is different to knocking on a boat's side to allow the occupants to answer and respond. A missing person is somewhat different to a (what shall we call it) terrorist or armed robber. I agree with the OP, the police should have handled this in a "friendly" manner rather than wobbling the boat. If I had that wobbling in the night when it was dark, I would have taken preventive measures to secure my safety, and probably been nicked!!!!
  7. I only hope that the CIA, FBI, MI5 are not snooping on this forum. Oh dear, and all for an early focus on Christmas. Knock, knock on your door at 4.30am.

    Coconuts

I quite agree Sabcat and I have nothing against people adhering to their own beliefs and acting accordingly. AS long as is does not break the British law. If I was in the Middle East and consumed alcohol or had sex on the beach, that would be unlawful according to their law and I would be prosecuted and sentenced according to their law. This I accept. So it should be over here. If it's against our law then you're nicked. Simple as that. Don't want this to become a racist thing, as I'm not a racist person just a realist.

    Coconuts

I don't mind ash thrown in the canal, I quite like the idea that my remains will float (or sink) for eternity in the place I enjoy. Coconuts will float about and maybe clank against your prop for a short instance and cause no damage. BUT clothing of any sort is a pain to boat users and is an offence as fly tipping. If the people can be identified then they should be prosecuted under British law. They are in Britain now and not in their part of the world with their beliefs and customs.
  10. Watch out Jodansgang and Phil, he might have help this year: Or somebody else might take care of it for you:

  13. No worries as I moor correctly. Oh oh, I'm off.
  14. I think there might be some confusion on who passes whom and on what side and who's going to get through this lock first. I somehow think the boat waiting to come down hasn't got a chance !
  15. Well, bugger me and I did search for Cassiobury before I started this post. Sorry mods !! Yes you did pass me as I'm presently moored between Boxmoor lock and bridge 151 adjacent to B & Q.
  16. For those of you in the area the above lock will be closed for about 3 days to refloat or crane out sunken boat. It's a 45' narrow called "Peace" Reg Nº 79140.
  17. Lit my fire for the first time today. I fancied curry and rice and wanted to experiment. 6" saucepan, tin curry and a packet of Uncle Bens rice. Within 10 minutes everything was going great. Going to save myself on this winters gas as well. Oh, and yes they are called trivets.
  18. Would be fun to pass a punt, lean over and grab the pole shouting "thank you". I saw someone using a hand gesture the other day (not to me you understand) but it looked like he was showing someone how to polish a boat pole !!
  19. When I bought Abacus about 3 years ago the previous owner filled a form and sent it to CRT. I then had a letter from stating was this true and to sign and return another form with all my particulars on it.
  20. I've just had a blinding idea, but don't tell anyone eh. As has been mentioned the scroats that go out looking to nick fuel will carry bolt croppers, hammers and all that stuff. Will they carry a 14" or an 18" stillson wrench? I don't think so. So do up your cap with a stillson as tight as possible. There is no way that the scroat will undo it. Don't loose your wrench though.
  21. Left or right, you can always believe in the Sun. Well, sometimes but I do like their crossword and quizword and all the other bits to get your mind working, albeit not working too hard !
  22. Are there any "winter moorings" available with electric hookup? This is a serious question and not a dig at anything. I like to be in a marina or a bankside mooring with electric and water for the winter as I've only had the boat 3 years and do like a bit of comfort over the winter months. That's of course if we get any this year.
