  1. Why not have all this modern stuff. For those criticising the gadgets, one wonders what you used to post on here, a carrier pigeon? Presumably those that frown on having all this stuff still have their boat pulled by a horse, no plumbed in water, no electric, dig a hole in the ground for their no2s etc... Why should I live like a caveman? I live on board all year, I'd much rather have my own washing machine than have to go trekking off to find laundrette lugging all my laundry with me, then have to pay, then have to sit there & wait for it. I like to have a fridge, I dont necessarily want to go shopping every day, plus I like my drinks ice cold. I dont have to plan my life around a fridge, I make sure I'm set up to run 1 just fine. I like to have a computer, why should I be without a computer just cuz I'm on a boat, I have the worlds knowledge at my fingertips with a computer & an internet connection, & I'd rather do that on my computer than on a phone. I like to have a phone, handy things for getting on the internet, staying in touch with people etc. I like to have electric, very useful stuff, & I'm set up so that my fridge gets enough electric. I like to have a TV, no big deal if I cant get a signal, other places I can get a signal, I like watching the F1 amongst other things. I like to have solar panels, saves me having to get up early 9 months of the year to start the engine to charge the batteries cuz I use stuff that uses electric.
  2. For Win 10 only. All left click. Make sure you are already connected to your Wifi Start button> settings (opens new window)> network & internet> select WiFi > (in the next column) advanced options> then you should see the toggle for metered connection. (which will stop automatic windows updates, you will need to do them manually) This doesnt work on Win 10, all it does is give you the option to connect or disconnect, it doesnt give you properties.
  3. With WIN 10 there is no option to turn off automatic updates. However there is a workaround, make sure you are connected to the relevant WiFi 1st, then (all left click) Start button> settings> network & internet>(select WiFi) advanced options> & then set "metered connection" to on Edited for clarity
  4. If you ain't got the right key, how did you get through the other locks...
  5. I lost a rather expensive stunt/racing quadcopter I was in the process of building. It didn't have any GPS or return to base on it yet, I was testing it for stability in a field when a coach load of people turned up. So I zoomed it into the air, the wind took it, I managed to lose site of it (cuz it was small) & that was the end of that. I spent 2 days going up & down the fields looking for it with no success.
  6. I think the 1st job you need to do is charge your phone
  7. I recommend ian Jennings for a surveyor. Tel 07828100418. I wasn't too impressed with Trevor Whitling, last time I said why my post was deleted.
  8. Time lapse of the Nene from Peterborough to Northampton. 32 hours cruising, 2 hours of video. This is a YouTube playlist & includes 8 separate videos. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEbtETsWfJ0KLd0L-T7CiheRr01hblI5L
  9. Dunno how much boats have gone up by, but 3 years ago I bought a 57' probably slightly slightly better specced (only real difference sprayfoam insulation) G&J Reeves boat with Beta Marine Kubota engine, built 2007, advertised for £48k, paid £40.5k. Tip top condition, 1300 Engine hours, fully equipped with all boaty stuff & tools etc (I chucked my own tools away because the ones that came with the boat were way better than anything I had). All I had to do was turn up with my crap & cruise off into the sunset...
  10. I doubt it would evaporate, the damn thing is supposed to be sealed. I've had my boat 3 years today, it had a pumpout & a porta potti for emergencies. The porta potti has never been used in 3 years, & it is still primed ready for use, ie the stuff hasnt evaporated.
  11. The ceramic bowl is nice if you dont mind spending all that extra money.
  12. My vote goes for Ultrafire torches (never ever buy their batteries) with a Cree XM-L2 T6 LED. I already had suitable batteries & a charger, so I got mine for £5 each, I have 3, 2 for my pushbike & 1 for the back of the boat.
  13. Land owner on the left hand bank travelling downstream, with the caravan park on the right, atty Cogenhoe lock
  14. Last time I was at Cogenhoe (Easter 2016) they wanted £8 to moor there on the river, so we didnt bother.
  15. Just for balance, been moored in the same spot since Friday, so 5 days, not 1 boat has gone past fast, & the majority of the boats have been hirers.
  16. & as another guide, 3 years ago I paid £40k for a 2007 boat, same size, far better equipped (eg 2.5k combi inverter charger these are about £2.5k new), very well maintained, all receipts & history for all work ever done, with nothing wrong with it at all. Go look at loads of boats, Whilton is good because they let you poke around on your own. Similar price, 13 years younger, knowing what Rugby boats (a brokerage) are like, very likely to be a pretty good boat http://rugbyboats.co.uk/listings/mistweave-56ft-tug-lister-jp2-1990/
  17. Given the amount of water points at Foxton locks I can see why, apparently you wanted that particular water point.
  18. Hmm just imagining what Jay from The Inbetweeners would call peeps who bought a boat from Whilton...
  19. Lol 4.53 am, someone can't sleep, haha, enjoy.
  20. 2 that spring to mind, Braunston & Buckby, both pretty close to Northampton, & the way you describe it is exactly how I say it, I just see that as a Northampton (villages) thing (before the London overspill of the 70s), & there was no boat influence in my life
  21. Well I endured a bloody long walk to Westbridge in the end (after cycling there 1st, I hate walking) where they had it for £25. I then rewarded myself with 8 cans of Newcy. Then my mother turned up whilst I was pissed as a fart (lol auto correct changed fart to CaRT). Now apparently I have to go shopping with her today in Oxford with a hangover.
