  1. 11! Somewhat exagerated and sensationalist as to be expected.
  2. 'The norrh west is closed'..........etc etc. Rubbish. We keep our boat near Chester and continue to greatly enjoy our boating.
  3. Just found this on CRT Facebook page Question Still looking for some comment from CRT regarding closing City canals at night? Is Manchester going to be the only city? Does the Night time closures include the canal and towpath? What time do the Manchester canals open again? CRT reply Hi ****, we've now got an update from our Manchester team about this very upsetting situation. "In response to the recent death of Orlando Nyero, the Water Safety Partnership – which comprises all the main city agencies, with the Trust - met urgently on 6 June to consider if there are any more immediate safety measures we can action following these tragic deaths. Following the meeting last week, the Water Safety Partnership agreed to take immediate action by installing interim fencing to deter people accessing the canal towpath overnight at key points near where bars are located (which will include near Locks 89 and 90)". The Manchester team have confirmed that the towpaths around this stretch, so between the Deansgate area and lock 89 area are closed from 10pm onwards and will reopen in the mornings. We've not got a definite time that the towpaths are opening in the mornings as at the moment it's about our staff availability but someone will always reopen in the morning, times may just differ at the moment. The funding of the barriers has come from Manchester City council and we can confirm that these barriers are only taking place in Manchester.
  4. So the best part of £100k in costs so far (#278) Thats a HUGE ask for a crowd funding project.
  5. Who mentioned Act? It is in the old bylaws for BW which, I believe, were adopted en mass by CRT.
  6. Bylaw 29 seems to cover it from reading the relavent bylaws.
  7. This sounds like a sensible move and may not be so difficult to regulate.....you just have to follow the ads that these people use to find the boats and check their licence status
  8. Point is you are in a public place, the canal and towpath, and not a private garden, so it goes with the territory!
  9. Properly called a pigeon box rather than a skylight. Might help if you do a Google search for builders.
  10. Surely Mr OP.....you are the ostrich!
  11. Someone on a boating fb page is asking for help establishing when a boat they are hoping to buy was built. The broker gives one date but CRT are saying it was registered many years earlier. This made me think. If a boat hull is fabricated one year, but it is not fully fitted out and used until, say 5 years later, when was the boat 'built'? When the steel hull was fabricated? When the fit out was completed? When it first went into the water? When it was first licenced? Opinions........
  12. Friends from Norway and Denmark have used my boat. Would have thought Norway in particular would be a good market, I know quite a few people there who have 'canaled' in England.
  13. My licence needs renewing at the end of the month so after reading this thread I thought I would look at the licence application form. When you sign the application form you accept the terms and conditions ( there is no tick box to accept or refuse) If this person has not signed the form because he does not agree with the terms and conditions then he has not made an application therefore he has not licenced his boat. Perhaps it is not CART that have refused his licence but he who has refused to licence his boat. Surely in these conditions CART are following the proper course of action. Have I got this wrong? Is it as simple as this?
  14. Edited......because I didnt read the thread title !!!
  15. I hope that Tony answers this by starting with the three words...."In my opinion...". Much as he has a good knowledge of law it remains only his opinion until a court decides.
  16. Come on guys..... In my opinion.... Allegedly....
  17. Sorry.....you forgot to add.......In my opinion ;-)
  18. It strikes me that most comments in this thread should start with the words "Allegedly......." or "In my opinion...." There seem to be an awful lot of comments that are stated as fact.......but are not!!
  19. A bit like the owner not paying mooring fees for a year and not having the right licences or permissions to operate as he was then?
  20. When we bought a new house in May I went to the bank with my passport and paid £25 for a CHAPS payment from my account. The money, £242,000, went from my account to the solicitors account in about 18 hours. Simple fast and very secure. Why would a payment for a boat, car or whatever, be any different.
  21. Yes, I too seem to recall you need to get special permission from CRT to use a horse on the towpath
  22. Did or do you work as a time and motion consultant. Im afraid to me this does not sound like a relaxing interest or hobby. Do you use spreadsheets too? ;-)
  23. It is interesting to hear that some cyclists use bells, and some dont. A poster here states he does not have a bell. I know it is illegal to sell a new bike without a bell, but is it illegal to not have one when you are cycling? Any cyclists here know?
