  1. Some people call it 'street art'. 😠😠😠
  2. VIC 32! You can keep those floating blocks of flats that cruise out of Southampton past the Pier here in Ryde. That puffer is the nicest cruise ship in the whole wide world. (IMHO, of course)

  5. Might be a bit of fun. I've often wondered what the slowest WP on the system would be. 😃 Lapworth services would be a strong contender in my book. I'm told that filling up while someone is taking a shower can be, ahem, 'interesting' when the showerer dashes out to complain!

  7. I can't help thinking that the Luddites had a point. Jobs being destroyed, no thought given to what might replace those jobs etc. (A bit like what happened after something that kicked off 40 years ago this month)
  8. Was the word 'hydraulic' used, by any chance? On the Esplanade here in Ryde there are a couple of manhole covers with the name 'Ham Baker' cast into them. I've taken I pic, meaning to post it here but it is too large a file size, apparently.
  9. Every time I go past there I think it would work as the set for 'The Truman Show'.
  10. Also Swallow Cruisers, between the lift bridges, at the top of the Lapworth Flight and Lady Lane Wharf. ETA: All on the North Stratford. Nowhere for diesel if you're going into Brum via Knowle on the GU. ETA. Mk II: Oops. I think Copt Heath Wharf, on the GU by the M42, might sell diesel.
  11. Yes. I had him in mind.
  12. I'm wondering what the St. Pancras Cruising Club have to say about all this?
  13. Then why don't you apply for one then? It was a bit of a dive but, yes!
  14. I think it's the one between Old Turn Jn. and Sheepcote St. Visitor moorings, Cast Iron Roving Bridge according to Canalplan. Odd to think I walked over it on Saturday.
  15. Middle of Birmingham. Near the entrance to the Oozells Loop. I thought thats where it might be but confirmed by looking at the 1918 25" OS map. Albion Tube Works and Nile Street.
  16. Yes. 9 tons, or the calorific equivalent in smokeless, with the 10th ton going to mining widows (and pensioners too?) warning..... Anyone else watch that program about the 84/85 strike on the box last night? One of those featured was a workmate at Hatfield Pit.

  18. Neither do I (!) Just back from the McSpoons outlet, 'Fowlers', on Union Street, Ryde. Where, a heck of a long time ago, I saw Kate Rusby following a gig where she had performed just round the corner at the old Town Hall.
  19. Billy Bragg. In the saloon bar of the Britannia in Barking when he was still Stephen. He played with an interesting bunch who were in the year below me in school who formed a band called Riff Raff. And later, here in Ryde on the IoW, Jet Harris late of the Shadows, in the Solent on Monkton Street.
  20. Just out of interest, what was your favourite beer?
