  1. I believe this is an ex thames tug that runs with the name ruffian and has been advertised for sale for many years it has been moored at the slip in knottingley also for many years, looks like it has had a cosmetic facelift and found a new owner.
  2. Unfortunately the stern end is for sale in goole with an even less sympathetic bow grafted (stuck) on, 44 feet long called Taurus 2
  3. I have a freind who did exactly this two years ago all went well for about eight months until the week before christmas a leak developed on his washbasin cold supply (whilst away for the weekend) At the time his barge was breasted up with another this prevented it sinking completely but not a pretty sight his christmas presents and belongings floating in five feet of water, oil and diesel ! it took seven hours to pump it out (insurance company not interested )
  4. Just filled boat up this afternoon 1000 litres at 51.3 per litre.
  5. All you lot seem to be light weights egret is a mere 95 tons.
  6. Hi the expansion vessel is very simple to change only basic tools required, just be sure to get a potable one the red ones are designed for central heating with corosion inhibitors in the water so corode quickly when used with straight water (I have seen this happen in less than 18 months from new I think the potable ones are coloured cream.
  7. why not take it to a nut and bolt supplier and ask them after all you will have to go to buy them anyway.
  8. I have a memory of a very lively night onboard the landfall in I think 1974 when I was a stoker on HMS Fearless The ship being given the freedom of Bootle and the following booze up when it was a nightclub.
  9. I believe supreme marine are no more now trading as castleford boatyard Ltd.
  10. Today with much trepidation I (and the lovely lady) put our floating home up for sale, not leaving the waterways but have decided to return to bricks and mortar. Egret is not your average canalboat but is happy cruising the northern waterways and further afield. At present I have a small tug under construction for my leisure activities so will not be leaving the waterways. This has not been an easy decision to make after living on various barges(and one narrowboat) since 1998. http://barges.apolloduck.co.uk/feature.phtml?id=379120
  11. I have owned a boat in the past that was named after a greek island, Phar Corf !!
  12. I am assured that the plaque is being restored and it will be returned in due course. I think E L stood for edward Lord of lord line shipping who used to keep a pleasure boat on the upper derwent.
  13. The volunteer you mention is an imposter,he is infact a retired british waterways employee living nearbye he has a history of ringing the police, he runs a very small angling club that has the fishing rights to the canal (castleford cut). Local boaters cyclists and neighbours avoid him like the plague. Some times he wears a british waterways uniform to add an air of authority to his existance. PS. I am married to the lovely lady.
  14. Aire and calder air draught 12 feet only other dimensions O K.
  15. I know of a boat repairer that sprays conventional bitumen. He first warms it up then thins with white spirit and applies two coats, the boat looks great at first but unfortunately the film thickness is aproximately only one tenth of what it should be so only lasts until the cheque clears.
  16. The lock I mentioned near lemonroyd is at the end of the fleet arm past the fuel depot through onto the river not the old lemonroyd.
  17. I know of three more locks that are buried on the A&C. Castleford middle lock in the centre of the cut below the old coal shute, the lower wing walls still visible on the river side. There is also one still visible at the end of fleet arm near lemonroyd. The third being the sheffield lock inside castleford flood lock ,still visible exept for its gates are no longer their.
  18. You should have no problem with a 57foot boat I have navigated the derwent many times with boats up to 12feet wide,The only slight problem is if two 57s try to go through sutton lock together EA in there infinite wisdom have not inset the chamber ladder in the wall so if heading downgate their appears to be enough space but the lock walls taper as it goes down. I have seen three pairs jammed before.
  19. I think Karma was a sloop built by watsons to a smaller dimension than sheffield boats to try and atract buyers from the broads this never happened it then being used as a market boat out of hull.
  20. The big stuff goes close to that location but not in the bit two feet deep.
  21. Sorry to here of your misfortune I am sure you will be glad to hear bulholme lock is closed for re-gating so no commercial traffic running at the moment. The majority of them head upstream drawing eight foot of draft so unlikely to reach you.
  22. I believe the sold sign relates to the lock keepers cottage which has been for sale for some time.
  23. Egret is a converted lighter from the river hull, dimensions 63 feet by 17 foot 6 inches constructed by Joseph Scarrs of Beverley made of iron in 1905.Owners being originally D. Hurtley Flour Millers, Akesters, Waddingtons and myself.

    HELP!

I looked at this advertisement last week and was confused as it stated "brand new hull" only to find it was a replated secondhand shell. This in itself with no other detail was very off putting and I continued my search elsewhere.I would suggest more detail, hull thickness, manufacturer etc.
