From Wigan Flight - there is a 24 hour mooring at Top Lock
Red Rock is nice and has a 48 Hour mooring and a local shop open during day about a 10 minute walk down the hill.
From Red Rock to Pleasington - Think its not a bad area but be careful around Blackburn centre - in my opinion lots of undesirables and also from previous walks - lots of junk thrown into the canal - not sure after but hope that helps
We brought a boat that didn't have a license and even though we got it at the end of July in order to move it we had to pay from the 1st July - we didn't have the license when we moved the boat but I had e-mailed the CRT with the forms and payment etc and got a e-mail confirmation that the license application had been received and was in process - therefore when I spoke to CRT on the phone they said I could move the boat and put a sign in the window of the boat on both sides saying license in application - we got the license 2 days later - but we had the money taken out for the license before we received it - so we were legit.
I know there are lots of boats on the cut without them but I was not going to risk it
It is good sometimes - Barclays are rubbish at times - they have froze my account for a £1 National Express coach ticket saying it was dodgy activity! And some other stupid things, but never about the really big stuff!
I'm watching it on plus one at the house - I don't get the point of the seeing eye - I mean people have survived for years on boats without a so called balloon 360 degree all seeing eye - this so far is nothing like Guy Martin's a few years back which I personally enjoyed
Haha!
I added a few white fenders I found on the front of the boat, which don't need to be there really so added two to side where mooring and its cushioned it slightly.
I don't mind interested nosey - but I don't like arrogant nosey.
I hate rude people and so far runners are the worst followed by cyclists on the towpath.
Hey all, as a new boater I have been observing boats and seen a good few names already. Out of curosity what is the best, the worst or the indifferent unusual or comical names you have come across - I know this is subjective on individual opinion but just curious of the weird and wonderful names there is out there!
I saw one today called - May Contain Nuts - Which I would say is unusual
Ropes are at 45
Have to get a few tyres - I think
People seem to be going past quite fast - I know there is some what look like abandoned boats nearby but still! Also the party boats gone by a few times in a few days. What a joy that was! NOT!
Hey all, I am loving the quietness the canal brings but do you get used to the thumping against the bank where you are moored - whenever a boat goes past it doesn't feel very gentle - is it something you get used to? Dogs don't seem to like it either! Also realised how nosey people are!
Yeah Betty - I'm too much of a worrier I think
I think the boat will be okay - just counting down to the end of Feb when I can be on it full time
The boat will gradually move closer to where we currently live - so won't be as worried when can check on it easier when it is nearer.
But at least it's 7 months and not years to wait!
That's a very good point!
Yeah - I like the Banana Boat look
Definitely
She is an olden - 1974 but she runs great - surveys all up to scratch - hull is sound - traditional features - ability to make it our own - made by Harborough - we like it and I love the character of the boat ( I know people say avoid a old boat - but if it all checks out - then we were happy)
She is a cruiser stern - and love the fact - no engine room as more space - infact she has lots of room in for a 50 footer
Feels more spacious than some of the bigger boats I looked at - anyway I'm happy so that is all that counts
And also because we got a older one - we saved some money so have ability to get the car - other half wants
At the end of the day -the dogs love it - I love it and already after just 1 night - I want to be on it indefinitely
Infact - travelled to work from mooring today which took about 55 minutes and just being in a busy populated area - I feel more claustrophobic than I did on the boat!
