  1. Agree with Bod. Get there early on day one and spend the first hour making appointments to view boats. Or email or ring the boat builders before hand to make appointments. The catering is expensive, bring a packed lunch!
  2. I would recommend a mooring but I'd like to be on it ourselves so I won't :-)
  3. There are moorings above the Thames Lock. We waìted there for the lockie to turn up.
  4. We came through Nuneaton after Easter this year, still loads of litter everywhere and a chap squatting to have a crap on the towpath under a bridge. Don't know if he cleared up afterwards! Plenty of dog crap too. We didn't stop!Southern GU from Bulls Bridge to Brentford has plenty of litter and crud, expecially below the Hanwell flight where the river Brent joins and onwards to Osterley Lock.
  5. Nope, no Photoshopping involved. Picture taken in March this year.
  6. At Hopwas north of Tamworth on the Birmingham & Fazely (or maybe the Coventry) it's 48 hours to the left and 2 days to the right. edited to get the picture the right way up (I think)
  7. It was there when we came through last month.
  8. If you really need to be that quick it will have to be on the back of a lorry.
  9. Does it work now? It was showing out of order on the display the whole time we were there. Not a problem to us, we filled up while the office was open. How's the new Rob getting on?
  10. Another vote for King's Marina. We spent 3 months there this last winter. Friendly helpful staff. Reasonable price for diesel and a coal delivery from a coal merchant every week. Waitrose and Aldi are within 5 minute walk, Newark Castle station is also 5 mins away although Northgate was more like 15. The town centre is a 10 minute walk with lots of nice shops and a good market. If you have a car its very handy for the A1 and the A46. As said in other posts if you are in a narrowboat this is the marina to choose. Check out the BWML web site for prices but we found them reasonable. Oh, and the local hospital is good for hernia operations too!
  11. Has the boat that had errm.... "broken down" on the Castle Gardens moorings last June moved on yet? Leicester was good, well worth the trip from Foxton. As others have said it's good further north too.
  12. Thanks. I suspect ball bearings could hurt quite a lot.
  13. We came up from Beeston to Cranfleet last Saturday with no problem. There is a warning board at Beeston that was in the red but we ignored that and below Cranfleet the boards were showing green! The current quickens around Thrumpston (where the signs tell you to keep right) but a couple of hundred more revs did the trick.
  14. Errmm...... sorry to appear thick but what is a BB gun?
  15. How come the Bridgewater and the MSC didn't get nationalised with the rest of the canals in 1948 and end up as CRT waters today?
  16. Welcome to the forum Pete. Pip and I (Mick) hope to catch up with the shows again this year.
  17. We saw them at in the pub garden at Welford last summer. Great show about fish and chips. And we moored alongside their boat Tyseley.
  18. Not strictly. However Meadow Lane lock at one end of the pound is closed. Anyway it doesn't matter now, we winded at Castle Marina entrance and reversed to Sainsbury's. Thanks for all the advice.
  19. Apparently the pound between Castle lock and Meadow Lane lock in Nottingham is lowered by 6" at the moment for maintenance of the weir at Meadow Lane. If we came down Castle lock does anyone know if we could still wind ok at the FMC warehouse winding hole despite the reduced depth? Alternatively we will wind at Castle Marina entrance (do they mind you doing that?) and reverse to Sainsbury's.
  20. The Willington water point is ok. You can check individual post codes here https://www.stwater.co.uk/content/ConMediaFile/5451 You can find out the post code of a location from a map here http://oscompare.raggedred.net/?&layers=B00FFT
  21. A notice from Severn Trent Water about over chlorination of the water supply. We are now asking customers in the DE11, DE15, DE65, DE73 and LE65 postcodes as a precaution to not to use their water for any purpose – it should not be used to drink, to wash with, to flush the toilet with. We are making bottled water available to customers at Sainsbury’s in Swadlincote (DE11 OAD). The issue was at one of our service reservoirs in Castle Donnington, and we are now working to flush the water out the system and are constantly testing the quality of water at customers’ taps. We believe around 3,700 customer are potentially affected in total, and we have been in touch with our most vulnerable customers to see what their needs are. If you have any further health concerns then we recommend you contact your local GP or health professional. We will keep all of our customers updated. Last updated – 5.47pm We filled up from the water point in Willington yesterday and can't find out if it's ok or not. Can't smell any chlorine.
  22. I think you need a home mooring to get an account (I may be wrong, hope so). Bit hard on us ccers. There should be a whole load more posts, especially where land lubbers get hot and bothered about engines being run.
