  1. So Waterways have 1569 locks to look after and two dedicated workshops that manufacture lock gates. And the above link details ... "The team have now assessed the damage and, unfortunately, this isn’t going to be a quick fix. A new gate will need to be manufactured. This could take a number of weeks, as workshops will need to procure materials and make the gate. The gate will then need to be transported to site and fitted, which could also take a few weeks." Yes. of course a gate will need manufacturing, that's why you have two workshops dedicated to doing just that. You own up to not carrying enough materials to make one gate! Why? Why will it take a few weeks to transport the finished gate? Do you move them by bus? I know all about tight budgets, no money etc. And I also know about P155 poor management. What are your Agreed Service Levels and how does the above stack up against what you're saying? Everybody else in the world is accountable for their actions and are not permitted to make up their own version as they go along without explanation, so what gives?

  3. Truckcab I’m completely fed up with your posts and would be very pleased if you could please get off your high horse. You’re beginning to spoil this forum for a lot of us and I don’t understand why you want to do so much damage to a very useful forum. You don’t need to wind yourself up and I suggest you maybe take a break from policing other people’s threads

  8. My understanding of the original; concession was that those who wanted to move around the system, and were therefore unable to make use of a fixed home mooring were allowed to do so. Thar is quite possible while not living permanently on the boat. There is, in law, no such thing as a "continuous cruiser", only a "boat without a home mooring".

  25. For me personally, it is you complaining about the unsatisfactory quality nature of forum replies over and over again that detracts from the quality of the forum. Why not start a topic of your own, listing your observations in detail the once, and then refrain from bothering again?

  26. Reading the above reply from JungleJames would be enough to send anyone new to boating or boat maintenance into a bit of a panic. My advice would be - panic not! There's hundreds and hundreds of boats out there that haven't had their baseplate painted with any protection. There's nothing to really suggest that your boats now riddled with holes and is going down like the Titanic. The argument goes that the baseplate is exposed to less oxygen so it's less necessary. Yes, personally I'd have gone for it at the time, and yes, I'd have gone for the same epoxy as the sides... but by the same token, I also have a boat that has epoxy blacking that is now 11 years old and is as rock hard as the day it went on. Many would say I should have had it re-done by now - but successive surveys have shown it wasn't needed/ So just get it out, have it inspected go from there - don't take too much doom from the post above.
