  1. Great. So, now we have a debate about Narrowboatworld and some ridiculous point scoring about "who got the story first" between two people who clearly have issues with each other, neither of whom have lost a single penny in the Barby debacle. Once again we descend into who's "right" in some personal bitching contest that has no relevance to the core issue. The mods might as well now ditch this whole thread because it's clearly more important that folk have their "5 minutes" for the audience whilst fraudsters like McMaster sit back and have a good chuckle about yet another predictable topic degeneration. Cheers fellas.

  4. Coming home from 12 hours at work in London, plus two hours commute either way wedged armpit-to-armpit with other commuters on tube and train; and coming home to the boat: taking my suit jacket off and putting on my fleece, sticking the kettle on the cooker while I get the stove going in the other room - and slowing feeling the boat warm up and come to life. It's therapy from everything else in life.

  5. Perhaps they should extend it across the network (that would keep them busy!)... A Soundmap Of London’s Waterways December 14, 2011 Londonist Click Here to visit the audio version, with embedded sound files. London Sound Survey is a truly extraordinary site. Truly extraordinary. No hyperbole or exaggeration. It patently deserves some kind of award for outstanding achievements in the field of excellence. Site owner Ian Rawes has spent years compiling audio recordings from around London – from street sounds to the clicks, whistles, squarks and hoots of the capital’s wildlife. It’s a priceless archive of the sounds of the city…an aspect often overlooked in our camera-obsessed society. Most splendidly, Ian has found imaginative ways to present his recordings. We’re particularly taken with this Tube-style diagram of London’s waterways. As well as following the Regent’s Canal, Grand Union Canal and their offshoots, he’s also tracked the various surface rivers of London such as the Lea, Wandle and Brent. Representative sound recordings have been made at regular intervals along each route, and embedded into the diagram. Click on the map above to visit the interactive version. The Waterways map is just one of many addictive sections of the site. A recent update added a number of historical recordings, including a fascinating snippet from Speakers’ Corner in 1937 (religious talk goes down surprisingly well), and a couple of street performers from the previous year.

  6. Am afraid you won't get my vote, even if your the only one to go up for it. I consider you devious, self righteous and arrogant, but what most concerns me, is the fact that you get right up my nose, and I suspect you would get up the noses of other council members as well. Sorry to be blunt with my honesty

  8. we are not voting for anyone that will have power to change things, this council will only be putting forward views and the 4 boater representative will be in a very small minority so in my opinion we need people who can put forward a good argument in order to protect boaters interests. If you really think that the representatives from cycling, fishing, walking etc are going to be even in the slightest bit interested in CCers V. CMers then I think you have completly the wrong idea of the power and make up of this council. The make up of this council shows that the majority of its members will be more interested in Towpaths etc.than anything to do with what actually happens on the water.

  9. Yes. I wouldn't make a promise that I couldn't keep. Certainly you will have seen that I will argue vigorously for my views here. In a place such as this where I represent only myself, it is natural that I would do so, as it fully reflects the views of my constituency! In a situation where I am representing boaters, I will represent what their views are. I may well find myself advocating one position here, and a diametrically opposed position to CRT Council, but that is the nature of representing people. I do it all the time in work meetings.

  10. Are you capable of keeping this promise , i have always found that you will stick to and defend your own views and other peoples views will do nothing to change what you think , mayall putting forward any view that he himself is not in full agreement with , cant see it myself .

  11. It is interesting that pump-out owners always say their toilet doesn't smell. However when I was working as a broker, I could usually tell if a boat had a pump-out as soon as I went on the boat.

  14. We convinced our two children that it was a special treat to be allowed down the weedhatch, and they'd only be allowed to do it if they were very good all day. They were at least 12 years old before they realised they'd been conned!
