  1. Just as a matter of interest, Tom, you say you registered the US Domain name "canalandrivertrust.org", in order to make BW/CART look stupid. As I have just registered the UK domain name "narrowboatworld.org.uk"....How stupid does that make you?

  2. But there in lies the problem. Canals might not be primarily about boaters, but they are primarily about boats, yes people fish them and people look for the wildlife, but there is a reason why a navigable waterway attracts a heck of a lot more land based bankside interest than an unnavigable one. Boats. How many examples do you want. I'm working with a developer in London who is willing to spend thick end of a million on making a piece of water navigable and having moorings on it. They're not interested in wildlife or anglers, they want the franchised bar and restaurant to overlook boats. Why do businesses spring up offering boat trips on the shortest length of navigable waterway (Roath Park Lake in Cardiff, the Derwent in Belper, just two examples). Boats. The public at large are fascinated by boats. A fundamental mistake is being made, just because boaters are a relatively small percentage of canal users doesn't mean that boats are not important.

  3. Or don't, and help save some of their money which would be otherwise wasted on someone's time responding to a FOIA request... Tony

  4. Well we can if we spend a few hours thinking up the potential options and checking them but unfortunately I have other things to spend my time on today! Might be interesting to check a few obvious ones and see if anything other than crt was registered just to know if it was decided in July or just one of many options. However, to me the name of the trust means nothing. The website of the trust can be called anything they like enjoyyourwaterways.com.org.info.plc.uk makes no difference. Success is still called success and failure still called failure and if it works then lets support the venture. Not how we would like the system to go but unless you have a few million pounds each year to prop up a public body we have to get behind what is available.

  5. You are obsessed with FOI requests, you also spend a lot of time knocking money wasted by BW yet you encourage people to put in meaningless FIO request tying up valuable staff time that could be used more usefully. I just think you need to get a life........... Another person that should get a life.........why should they register it on a USA domain name? as I said before they never registered britishwaterways.org and most people still seem to find the website. Their website is certainly a lot better than the tripe and rubbish on yours. I am sure the NBW story is full of made up facts. I presume it does mention that by taking over the business and staff of BW they have a legal obligation to also take over the pensions or do they think the taxpayer should take over the liability (sorry I mean the taxpayer)

  6. run your boat on water "are you mad" No, i dont think so. Having tried tarmac and cobblestone, I've found water to be the best for a boat.

  7. Sorry are we discussing BW now? I thought we were talking about CART? And your knowledge of NABO council is well out of date, do keep up Dave. And NABO News, with the exception of the latest issue is available online free to all so none of your money is endangered by finding out the facts before spouting off. You are just as sour mouthed as Sueb. eta: I think you'll find that his crossword is really rather good.

  8. And sends clouds of unpleasant and probably toxin laden smoke down the way for the neighbours to breathe in too... One of our neighbours burns all his plastic milk bottles every week - in spite of the fact we have a recycling collection for them. Just what you need on a pleasant weekend morning - the stench of burning plastic all around the place... It should be fine though as you probably won't be affected in the boat! Andy

  9. Sorry Patrick but that is a good thing, reinforcing my view that, if the zealots on both sides can be ignored, wildlife conservation and navigation can peacefully coexist and be mutually beneficial. Personally I can live with the logo but I hate the name because the implication is that they are responsible for all canals and rivers, navigable or not. If they were not allowed to have 'British' in the title, for fear of confusing people that they had all of the British waterways, why have they settled for a name that could lead people into thinking that they can ring up about every little river or stream? That aside the decision has been made and we have to play the hand we've been dealt. It is perhaps time to give them a chance and see how they go.

  10. oh keep going with that idea...try talking to your daughter about it and see what she thinks...if she likes the idea, it will give you a bit more 'umph' in the decision. I think it's a great idea, and there are some decent moorings in Leeds basin if you can secure one....how brill for a student! Don't give up....softly softly....... When we first thought about living on a boat, all our family, except my niece, thought we were absolutely bonkers! They had visions of us being cold, damp, no water or facilities, bent double because boats are soooooo tiny (????!!!) and generally, well, gypsy life styles. My neice thought it would be 'cool' though. Once we got afloat, my sister now dreams of having one, and the rest of the family proudly tell their friends about their family member on the water.....how things change when reality is in front of people....

  11. Absolute crap, any of us could have photoshopped the logo in 5 mins. Inspiring name to market worldwide! "CANAL & RIVER TRUST - The charity running British Waterways" for those unaware thats 64 Clarendon Rd, BW's headquarters

  12. This has really got me thinking. One of the worst tasks in the morning, while lying in bed, checking my mails, is when I have to get out of the comfy blankets to switch on the invertor. It's just a normal one with a hard click switch, but I reckon that if I leave a shoe in the right place, with a piece of string........click! Anyone got it to work? he he he

  13. This forum has got to be, single handedly, the best method of stopping people from buying a boat. I am struggling to think of a bigger on-line gathering of misery-guts sorts. No, cant think of one. Some brilliant helpful people also but why the need (by a significant number) to constantly troll the board and be petty and demeaning? I think a few people need to get some exercise, or possibly a good shag, or possibly both. Its nice to be nice you know. So glad I found this place after purchasing a boat otherwise I probably would have settled for a camper van..

  14. When you bleed the fuel do you bleed from the top bleed nut number 295? My fr no longer has the sock filter in the fuel reservoir there. I had problems with air in my fuel which in the end after replacing every pipe and junction was the isolation stop tap close to the tank that had been disturbed. I have fitted a bypass oil filter as the crude lister mesh is only good for large debris. Blowing black smoke is more an indicator of air blockage than fuel shortage?
