All this fuss and bother over nowt! Fora can be free, unmoderated and successful. Adults don't need moderation and can control themselves so as not to overstep the boundaries of the site host. Posters who just wish to cause trouble don't stay forever, they hitch up their caravans and move on to cause bother elsewhere.

Yeah right!
So you agree with inflamatory personal insults, potentially defamatory statements and threats being made against people without any moderation being taken?

.................just had a look at the Thunderboat (as I do every now and then to try to keep up with Tony's travails) - they seem to spend more time discussing us and working out subterfuges as to how to get back on our site than they do on anything else.

Well a boy has got to have a hobby!

That’s a little dramatic ! 14 posts in one thread is hardly monopolising the forum is it?

Possibly the fact some individuals find it so easy to get a reaction by poking the CWDF hornets nest might explain it?

I think that rather cuts both ways, and your reference to 14 posts is a gross understatement. The place even has a whole sub forum dedicated to discussing here, not that I have a particular problem with that that is their right but it does indicate a bit of a fixation with this forum and its members.

And if people prefer it so much over there why exactly is Ricco so seemingly desperate to try and get back on here, but seemingly frustrated by the measures in place to prevent it.

I guess it's because he actually debated quite well in the Brexit thread and enjoyed it, but you just don't get the level of intellectual challenge over there as everybody just appears to agree with his perspective on leaving, on here he was tasked to actually come up with a developed argument.

Both "forums" and "fora" are correct in English as she is spoke.

You bit!   From the Oxford English Dictionary "The plural of forum is usually spelled forums; the plural fora (as in the original Latin) is chiefly used when talking about a public square in an ancient Roman city"  Several other sources, if you wish, including the top of this page.

Apologies for this - I don't usually nitpick, but the pretension of 'fora' is peculiarly irritating.

(which would suggest that the reason for the popularity of "forums" is contained in the signature of a bit of a monster in another place ? )

And you are a past master at poking the hornets nest in both places.

So what exactly are you doing here with this? And your earlier post about me based on misinformation.?

I'm afraid pot and kettle spring to mind.

And where have I mentioned you?

You didn't. So who exactly were you referring to with your supporting comments to his post, since Mike has subsequently confirmed it was me he was discussing.

As I am not Mike I cannot know to whom he was referring.

Many people have thrown their toys from their various prams, take your pick.

His post on was predicated on a previous reference to a caravanner, which sort of narrows it down a bit.

There is only one on here that I know of who has also been a member of Thunderboat. Do you know of another?

I looked at your links, and all of them agree that forums is the usual plural, except in scientific and classical contexts and in the sense of  Roman public meeting places.  I was quite surprised, considering that you presumably listed them in support of your original response!   Vox populi, and all that.

Edited to say that the graph is misleading in that the present commonest meaning of 'forum' didn't even exist for most of its timeline.  Sorry, you've lost me about the monster in another place.

I’m afraid I dont know the other interests of forum members either here or on Thunderboat so I can’t answer your question, sorry.

But, hey just because youre paranoid it doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.

You appear to have made a simple mistake.

No problem or paranoia here. Goodnight Alyson.
