We need a TV for the boat. I was looking at something 20 - 22 inch.

Has anybody bought a new 12v TV recently. What did you get, how much did it cost and what do you think to your purchase? Would you recommend it?

Thanks for your thoughts.

if you're buying any tv smaller than about 30" expect to need a separate speaker / amp of some sort for it to sound anywhere near acceptable, modern small tv sets are all built around being as thin as possible and having the smallest possible bezel, this leaves nowhere for a speaker of a decent size to fit so they have to use smaller speakers, that 6 inch oval speaker that used to be in your old CRT tv has been replaced with a 10mm cube.

with the 20-22" size of screens view them working before you buy if possible, some manufacturers are using cheap tv's as a method of disposing of older technology screens, these will usually have terrible viewing angles (look at the screen from above and below to judge how bad the viewing angles are, usually from slightly below blacks will become a muddy brown)

if money is no object and you want the best possible screen (so far) look for LED backlit IPS screens, these have no issues at all with viewing angle but will be quite a bit more expensive.

I purchased a 20" Cello recently. No problems, British made by Goodmans. I found it worth getting the version with DVD and USB. The USB socket allows recording or time-delaying of programmes.

I got this one last year, comes with 240v and 12v cables, speakers are plenty loud enough even with engine running.

No longer available on Amazon but might be able to find it elsewhere.

Same unit that we purchased.

We found the speakers a bit tinny in sound. Preferences I guess.

Eta. Not the same unit. Ours is 22". Acdctv selling ours for £189.

Looks like Cello will be the favorite. Do I go for the free view and free sat version? When I caravanner I could always get a picture with My Aldi special portable satellite dish. I still have it but want to wall mount the TV so no room for the box. If it's builtin to the TV then it's one less thing to worry about.

I have a Samsung 22" Smart TV that runs off 14V. I used it for a year or so at 12V via an adaptor with various outputs, (but not 15V), then tried it at 15V. It was fine at both voltages.

I also have an LG Smart TV that runs off 19V. A second adaptor set at 19V has been running this for over a year.

I found them both by looking at the backs of all the TVs in Curry's and John Lewis to find those with DC inputs via a 240V adapter.

The other day I found some Sony 49" and 50" Smart TVs running off 19.5V DC, which I'm sure would be fine at 19V.

You don't need to pay big money to "specialist suppliers", nor do you have to accept the losses incurred by having an inverter running.

Small TV's are much the same and most manufactured by or use components from the Turkish company Vestel and screens from China or other far east suppliers

Buy if possible from John Lewis for the free 5 year warranty and customer service
