Those Parisiens have just not got the hang of throwing rubbish into canals have they. Tam Edited January 6, 2016 by Tam & Di
Athy
A good and well-illustrated story. Parts of it look as if they could do with a dredge - though for whose benefit I'm not sure, as when we walked alongside it a few years ago we did not see a single boat, either moored or moving. Dredging three miles of canal will cost seven million pounds? Why?

Dredging three miles of canal will cost seven million pounds? Why? There is a very good trip boat that runs from the Seine Basin to the upper basin, taking in the Bastille tunnel - well worth a trip for any boat loving Paris visitor. All the locks and swing bridges are operated remotely by a single controller in an office using CCTV. And though there is no mooring online, the basins at each end have plenty of moored boats and I have seen quite a bit of traffic on this stretch. magpie patrick
Look at the access to the lock for the workforce and compare it with how it would be done here... [an observation - not a value judgement]

Phil Ambrose
When the G.U. was emptied back in the 60s due to a failure of the aquaduct over the A406 North Circular Road (thanks to prior efforts of the IRA) at one point it was found to be full of safes. the point where all the safes were found was under or around a bridge on an industrial estate in Park Royal, very quiet at night. Phil Came up Perry Barr last year. A couple of pounds had been drained by vandals. One of them had six safes under a road bridge in the tail of a lock. I had to put another two feet of water in the entire pound, above what had been needed to cross the pound, to clear them, which of course drained the pound above etc. George ex nb Alton retired
