Couple of (probably daft) ideas

1/ & 2/ Can't find the rules for these on the CRT web site. Anyone found them?

Pardon my cynicism, but I presume this is another attempt at avoiding having to CC? Obviously you can moor up abreast for a short while, otherwise fuel boats would be having a hard time of it and none of us would be able to have a coffe with randomly met friends.. Doing it for three months over winter might cause a few raised eyebrows at CRT, espcially if you're already on their proverbial radar.

Thanks. So it looks like you can let other people moor there with CRT's permission but it doesn't explicitly say someone can't moor up abreast (unless I missed something). I'm guessing if it's an obstruction then it's definitely a no no.

No you missed something, a mooring is for a boat, not a number of boats... The bits from the T&C....

DEFINITIONS

‘Boat’ means the Boat or vessel named in this Agreement or one that is substituted for it with our prior written consent (which will be subject to the suitability of the Mooring and payment of an additional Mooring fee, where applicable).

‘Mooring’ means the water space at the Mooring Site temporarily allocated to you from time to time by us for the Mooring of the Boat during the period of this Agreement. ‘Mooring Site’ includes the Mooring and land and water (together with any pontoon or jetty) adjacent to the Mooring that is in our ownership or control; and where the Mooring is within a marina, boatyard or basin, includes all such water space and land associated with that marina, boatyard or basin.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. This Agreement allows you to moor the Boat at the Mooring Site. It does not give you the right to a particular Mooring or berth. Where a berth or particular Mooring is specified, you nevertheless agree to move the Boat when we ask you to, or agree that we may move the Boat a reasonable distance to ensure best use of the water space available at the Mooring Site.

3. The right to use the Mooring is personal to you and you may not assign it to any person. You may allow another person to use the Mooring for short periods but only with our permission which shall not be unreasonably withheld.

If you have a motor and butty pair you wish to moor (permanently) breasted up, CRT (if they permit double mooring at the site) will charge you 2 mooring fees, although you are only taking up one boat's length of bank. So you will be paying twice as much as a 14 ft wide boat would on the same mooring.

1/ He will need to ask CRT for permission, which they will grant, provided they are satisfied that he is going to play by the rules whilst you are on his mooring. If they get the impressions that whilst you are on his mooring, he will be bridge hopping in the couple of miles around the mooring, they might regard it as a fiction dreamed up to get round the requirements for anybody to CC.

2/ No, the mooring is provided for a single boat. If he wants a mooring for 2 boats breased up, he will need to pay for a double mooring. CRT are unlikely to get shirty if this is a VERY short term thing (say up to 48 hours) and the canal isn't obstructed, but if this is more than a social visit to a friend, they won't play ball.
