Napton Locks - progress?

Anyone local to Napton locks know how the work is progressing? They had quite an extensive amount of work scheduled

 

They're supposed to be opening on 19th December having been closed since early November

I think they are progressing well with it. I was metal detecting in the field where they are working yesterday and they seemed very busy. Lots of workers there.

Perhaps they're converting it to an inclined plane, to give supporters of the failed Foxton project something to do.

 

Did you find much metal?

What is the "right" type? What do you do with it, "weigh it in" at a scrap dealer's? So I assume you're after the heaviest pieces you can find.

A little bit. My only decent finds were a silver hammered love token and a silver florin.

The right type is anything old and interesting, preferably in gold or silver.

Ah, I see. It sounds as if it could be a "nice little earner", although I assume that you keep pieces which interest you and sell the rest on.

It was a nice little earner when I lived next to a busy beach, but looking for old stuff in fields is just for interest really. I keep on to the old things I find unless I get really desperate for cash.

If you ever venture a wee bit further South with your equipment, do have a trawl alongside Sovereign Wharf. If you find a Buckby can which is painted purple, I would love to get in back.

They seem to be making good progress. The first lock by the Folly was very busy with workers and part of a gate hanging from a hoist. The wall at the next lock is done and the scaffolding has gone. Some pics from today.

I went to Marple open day very interested to see that the lock floor was brick lined any idea on the floor of the napton locks
