I need to transport my 40ft narrow boat down south.

IIRC the actual cost for the haulage was well under £1K, the rest of the fees were for cranes, tax and a charge the Marina charges to let the cranes & haulage use their launch area. Again ours is a WB, so I would expect a skinny boat to be much less; if for no other reason then the tonnage would be significantly less. I could be completely wrong, but understand the price is calculated on the length, width and tonnage of the vessel (some equation used) then x by the road miles of the journey

Stoke to Uxbridge cost me about a grand, plus cranage at each end, because we couldn't get the lorry near enough to the canal to use the lorry's HIAB at Uxbridge. As long as it's not a special load such as a wide beam that needs an escort or too long to fit on a 15 metre trailer, the cost is roughly constant

Hey John, guess we got a really great deal than, as our is a WB 57 tonn, and as stated we paid well under 1K for the haulage :)

Stanstead abbots is £20 to crane out

How much do you think it would cost in diesel from Liverpool to London if I took it by canal. Its an old boat so don't want to hammer it too hard

According to canal plan it will take around 150 hours from Liverpool to London, so at 1.5ltr an hour that's 225litres total.

dunno if I can post this here or open new thread, how do I contact the boat movers here? I was initially gonna move my own but due to inclement weather and delayed fit out--to sailaway plus my diary has to many entries to free enough time. Thinking of getting someone to move her from Dudley to Crick then I can sail her last stretch to Debdale.I am a novice at boat handling and as I see it from crick onwards no hassle till Foxron staircase which I have watched boats going through many times. I have done two boat handling courses so I think it will all slot into my brain ok. I ideally would like to pick her up on March 23rd. At present projected finish for work being done is mid march. If I have muscled in on anothers thread abject apologies. Should I start a thread "Boat Movers ahoy?" or can I be more subtle?

You could contact either Matty40's (if you can find his details ) and/or Nigel Carton - both members on here and professional boat movers of some repute

Richard

£100 to move it from where it had been stood to where the lorry could lift it with a HIAB, and £200 to crane off the lorry into the water.

I specified a lorry with it's own crane, which costs more. I was hoping to avoid cranage fees...
