Guest
My cratch cover zips are a bit sticky! Is there something that I can use that will make them run smoothly? Thanks in advance
Guest
My cratch cover zips are a bit sticky! Is there something that I can use that will make them run smoothly? Thanks in advance I use WD40. A small enough amount so as not to soak the cover itself. Candle grease works too but doesn't last long outside. Ray T
Before the days of plastic zips I used to run a pencil up and down the zip. The graphite acted as lubrication. Never tried it with plastic ones though. A little WD40 on a cocktail stick?

Ray T
Do you mean a cotton bud? that could work I think. I just use the little red plastic tube that comes with the can. What I was thinking Martin was to spray a little WD40 into the lid and dab a little on the Zip in various places or feed it down the zip carriage. This would prevent any overspray on the material. I use a darning needle and run a little oil down it to lubricate the wheel bearings and motion of my model railway locos. Yes a cotton bud may be a better suggestion Edited January 20, 2014 by Ray T

wullie
I would use silicone spray easy to get hold of in any large hardware store.
BlueStringPudding
Another vote for silicon spray - either from a hardware shop or a supermarket (laundry section - it's used when ironing... not that I've ironed anything for the last seven years)

leolady too
Try these people. We remade our cratch cover including zips and "window" panels and got everything from them. They were very helpful when we visited and I imagine would be by 'phone if needed and if you weren't near enough to them to visit. www.kayospruce.com

plainsman
My cratch cover zips are a bit sticky! Is there something that I can use that will make them run smoothly? Thanks in advance Give a good clean with a nail brush using WD40 or soap and water if nylon/plastic. When dry lubricate with silicone. Anything with grease will attract dirt. If the zips are not cleaned any lubricant on dirt will add to the wear on the zips.
