Safety tip of the month

Always refill your gas cigarette lighter over the sink. The gas that spurts out when its full will sink down into the sink and escape down the plug hole. This can be proved by striking a match outside beneath the sink waste outlet.

Ps. There might be a short delay if you have a U bend but this will give you extra time to nip outside to do the proving test. Keep safe. bizzard.

Point of order yer honour.

If you have a U bend, the water in it will stop the gas escaping out the drain.

Never fill your lighter in the sink, in case you have a U bend.... Nip outside and do it!

Ah!! A deliberate omission on my part to see if anyone noticed the hitch.

Of course if you have a U bend you must lower head into the sink and blow the water out first before refilling your lighter.

2nd point of order, m'lud.

If you have a u-bend, remove it. A u-bend is there to separate your nice clean sink/toilet/bath from the unsavoury contents of the main sewer system in a house. In a boat it is simply a pool of unhygienic stagnant waster water between your nice clean sink and lovely clean fresh air. Unless bizzard is outside filling his lighter.

That's the idea, no U bend or you bend to blow away the water first.

You gauge when you fill up your lighter with gas by studying weather charts and following seasonal wind speeds and directions. But if your caught out with an empty lighter and an adverse wind you may have to turn the boat around. On not account put the plug in unless you want to wash your socks or do the washing up.
