Has anyone heard of these new props or got one of these new props? About three weeks ago I watched a guy stop his boat on a six pence! I want one!!!! I think he called it an Axiom propeller, but my hearing not so good anymore.

It appears to be a two-bladed afair, and the blades are rather rectangular from a rear view (rather than the more usual "tear drop" shape.

 

Apparently, there is some really clever stuff in the surface curvature.

Yes there is a new prop called Axiom on the scene i wondered how long it would be before it got talked about.

I have a Axiom fitted to my boat and have been involved in some of the early trials for the new design all i can say is keep your ear to the ground and your eyes on waterways world.

My Axiom is a 3 blade type and yes it is very clever, its like fitting abs.

Hi Mike.

 

Just taken a look at Mr Axiom's personal data, it reads like a presentation to 'Dragons Den'.

 

I happened to notice that he and yourself joined the forum within a few days of one-another in July this year. He lives in Thrapston, Northamptonshire.. You have not posted an address at all.

Axiom propellers joined the canal forum site when we we're conducting trials on seven narrow boats. Because the forum is a very good way of learning about the problems regarding the handling characteristics of narrow boats. We do not know Mr lewis, but i will be in contact with him this afternoon.

 

Dragons den will take 70% of all of the patent....... NO THANKS

Yes i am in Northants and yes i new mr Axiom a number of years ago when i used to work next door to him at his primary ocupation at the time, he looked me up earlier this year knowing i had a boat asking me to take part in trials for his new design of which i have been doing since may and have been very impressed. I have also lent myself and my boat to Axiom + waterways world to carry out trials for the magazine which is why i say keep your eyes on waterways world.

Yeah, its called a marine screw and if you've done any boating. You'll know it full of problems. We have spent 15 year developing a true propeller.

Brunel bless him. being the innovator he was. He would have love to see the thrust our propeller produces.

Forgive us a little cynicism here Mr Axiom, we've heard these things before....if its a good product, it will sell - but, in our experience, boaters are generally more swayed by fine deeds than by fine words...and the woolly hats sit on their heads, not over their eyes.....

 

The fact that something is old doesn't make it good or bad....but it does indicate that there has been plenty of time, and probably plenty of brain power expent, on trying to improve it before now.....so someone turning up on the scene and claiming such an apparently significant leap forward (or sudden stop, should that be ?) for such an 'old' technology is perhaps going to need to do more to convince the 'punters' than someone suggesting a more moderate improvement....

 

If it does do what you say - FANTASTIC ! - but we'll judge it for ourselves thanks !

Totally agree with your sentiment. That is the reason why we have spent the last two years trialing the axiom propeller full size. It has been trialed at sea (3000 miles) and 5000 miles on the UK inland water ways. All together ten boats have been fitted our propeller. All the owners have reported the same thing. We are very proud of that fact.

Thats what i have been doing for him all summer and i can say it does axactly what he claims and truley does transform the boat in many ways especially in shallow water. I spent a day with Axiom and Mark Langley of Waterways world a week last saturday in the high winds and it out performed all of our expectations in the very high wind. I am not here to sell this for Axiom i am here as someone that has been fortunate enough to be involved in trials on a range of there designs and i can honestly say i have been hooked to the Axiom its performance is something else.

 

Ok name the boats and owners so WE can make our own assesment.

And would you be prepared to allow me to come on your boat and make an independent viewpoint?

I am not a professionally qualified person BUT I have a wealth of a number of years practical boating and am suitably knowledgeable to make an informed opinion

From one boater to another i would not have a problem with you visiting my boat all though this has already been done by Mark Llangley of waterways world (subject to a few arrangements) as regards to other people in involved you would have to speak to Mr Axiom as i do not know these people. I know Mr Axiom is also carrying out trials with a large hire fleet at the moment so if you are a man in the know you might get some feed back there.

- I'd proberbly have so spend some time with a simular boat with a standard prop as well to get a comprison. But that would be insteresting too.

 

Spent most of the weekend sharing the rochdale locks with another boat (std liverpool boats setup) and it amazed be how poorly it stopped.

- From even quite a slow speed he seamed to have to run it very hard in reverse to get really any lift. And the wash was very messy indeed.

Interesting your point about comparing like for like. As i mentioned in earlier post i spent a day with Axiom and Mark Llangley of Waterways World on my boat A standard set up 58 ft trad style liverpool boat. We carried out a trial with my marine screw then did excactly the same with the Axiom and compared the difference both myself and Mark where amazed by the difference perticually the reverse stopping power which was nearly halfed. I know the trial is also being carried out by 2 identical boats belonging to a hire company which Mark is also covering,the trial we carried out will be published in the waterways world shortly, when i know which issue i will let you know

Maybe they should try and tow each other backwards in a tug of war and then tie them bow to bow and try it in reverse
