They would have been better off keeping the marinas.

I believe BWML was already a separate company under British Waterways.

In anyone can say why BWML was sold  I would be pleased to hear it. I can only guess C&RT wanted an easier income . For example collecting rent from a warehouse must use less manpower and creates a more predictable income via long lease agreements compared to running a marina.

A very wise man once told me , there are only three things you can do with a business, grow it, close it or sell it, staying where you are is not an option.

That is exactly what I was learned when I did my "Starting and Running a Small Business" evening class course at a skool in Reading back in 1979. Back in the day when evening classes on stuff like this were a thing.

Fascinating teacher we had. Elderly geezer with very long hair (unusual back then), clearly knew his business law and done very well in business. Played Hammond organ in a very well-known rock band he claimed, but we could never work out which it was - no internet back then! He taught me LOADS about how to get off the ground and go self-employed. Shame I never applied much of it :D

There is a joke about that.

Bod gets stopped at Aussie immigration desk at the airport for an interview.

Immigration official: "A few questions before we can agree to let you into Australia: Firstly do you have any criminal convictions?"

Bod: "Oh dear, no, I didn't realise that was still a requirement..."
