Hi looking to bring a 24vft grp cruiser  from Lemonroyd  marina down to Manchester,  looking at the route it seems to entail a trip down  the Aire and  Calder then down the Rochdale canal. My question  is the trip feasible  in a smallish  boar and what  would  the time scale be,  ? Any advice/ tips gratefully  received

The Calder & Hebble is broken at Figure of Three Locks, so you won't be able to get onto the Rochdale from Wakefield end.  Unlikely to be fixed this year from what CRT are saying.

Your only cross pennine route available is up to Leeds then across the Leeds Liverpool Canal and up the Bridgewater.

Timescales depend on how hard you want to work, but canalplan has it as 120 miles and 91 locks.  It's doable in a week of long days or an easy ten days.

Note you can't do the L&L locks until next week when they open, and they are all on time restrictions from Bingley to Wigan which will mean you have to wait for them to be unlocked sometimes.

With Figure of Three out, you have to go via the L&L.

This is a trip of 119 miles, 1 furlong and 91 locks from Lemonroyd Marina to Castlefield Junction.

This will take 60 hours and 28 minutes which is 8 days, 4 hours and 28 minutes at 7 hours per day.

From Lemonroyd Marina travel northwest on the Aire and Calder Navigation (Main Line - Castleford to Leeds) for 6 miles, 3½ furlongs and 4 locks to Leeds Bridge, then travel west on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds) for 91 miles, 7¼ furlongs and 85 locks to Wigan Junction, then travel southeast on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Leigh Branch) for 7 miles, 2½ furlongs and 2 locks to Leigh Bridge No 11, then travel east on the Bridgewater Canal (Stretford and Leigh Branch) for 10 miles, 6½ furlongs to Stretford - Waters Meeting, then travel northeast on the Bridgewater Canal (Main Line) for 2 miles, 5½ furlongs to Castlefield Junction.

Or for a 24ft cruiser, if you don't want to spend a week plus boating, there's always http://www.tonytugboats.com/
