Geograph Photo by habiloid. August 2020. An EA crane, it seems.

Elaine says it's a pumping station moving water by submersible pumps, and the hoist is to lift them out when needed for maintenance.

Fixing a leak in the keel cooling. With no drydock within many miles we had to use the slipway at Auxerre. The heavy load bent the end of the skeg upwards, locking solid the rudder. This we discovered when the boat  floated off and I had to let her crash into a (fortunately) strong) metal boat with a handy rail to attach to,as an alternative to drifting down to the barrage. A friend then torched a bit of clearance higher up and it all worked again.

On this day 2016

A horrible run from Wells next the Sea to Boston. Conditions were crap, we had to plod along at displacement speeds for a long while and luckily just managed to catch the tide into Boston. Both boats were running very low on fuel by the time we were moored up.

The pictures just don't show how bad it was. Couldn't even take any pictures for the most part of the trip!

I think we timed our recent trips to and from Wells  just right - with a it of luck thrown in. Not perfect but not the worst we have seen. Sea conditions for the next two weeks are forecast very poor for leisure boats.

One thing we certainly won't miss having to check the weather and sea state conditions

Much preferring to just jump in the van and go whatever the weather.

Roger Lorenz only took one photo at sea of bringing Shellfen across the Wash in, I think, 1973.
