Rochester Pier River Medway from Rochester Bridge

spacer.pngA memorable weekend: hotel booked around a river-trip-booking from Rochester Pier to Southend Pier and back.

Ring Ring (at a motorway services driving from Sheffield to Rochester) Sadly the trip has had to be cancelled because the pier is closed ...

So the qualification on the sign was not wholly welcome ...

The subject stays in the same place (500 m in from the northern end of Harecastle Tunnel T&M) but usually eludes exact placement in t'middle of a picture.

Napton Junction GU/Oxford and lookingc down Napton flight

And Napton Junction on Sunday 25th October 2020. It’s a place I remember from the 1970s. That marina opposite spoils the location somewhat.

But, in comparison with some junctions which are rather understated, the scale of the bridge makes this one seem important.

Is it really larger than others? The canal is wide beam at that point anyway and the ramps that carry the towpath across the junction are still pretty steep, even given their length.

It has always struck me as rather imposing when we've gone past it on the Oxford. Perhaps it just "stands well".

Indeed, but not very unlike, say, Barbridge (although it spans a narrow canal) or Bulls Bridge, to name but two
