Actually, this is Lock 21, the bottom lock being 23/87. When this section opened, the locks started above Pottery Road and ran to Aspull. The Leigh branch post-dates this by five years, joining the main line above Lock 22 at Henhurst.

Yes, that's right. Only the bottom lock in the sense of the twenty-one before reahiong the junction. Hmmmm...

...are you working your way up river? Keen to see the navigation above the half tide gate ...

Yes, sadly this was a brief Glasgow visit, further abbreviated photographically by some bellringing and lots of rain ...

From 4Mar2016  River Clyde Tidal Weir  - also compare 20Oct2014.

Had a walk upriver from the tidal weir on 5Mar2015 - pictures HERE. Not all annotated - in walking-order upriver and iirc, photographed each one. Signposts give a bit of a clue ... Extract of the photos below:

Thanks.
The Clyde above the weir seems to be an almost lost asset in regard to boating now that commercial craft no longer go up to the workshops.
A true cruise it or lose it waterway!

Is the Clyde River Cruise a regular event? I can't recall having seen anything in the national the waterway press.

If not maybe a local group could get one going?
In fact considering the recreational opportunities the river presents it seem to get almost no press cover.

To get up river you need to get past the barrier and it only operates at certain states of the tide . The barrier can only be open for about an hour and if you miss coming back down, your boat could be stuck up there for ages waiting for the correct state of the tide. It takes a bit of organising and we have had Gamebird up there but it was during the night and dark so we couldn't see much. (Peter was with us , hence the photo of us after we came back through the barrier ).  When you go through the barrier, the barrier keeper lowers a basket into which you place several bottles of beer to thank him for opening the barrier 🙂 . I haven't heard of many organised trips through the barrier but there are not many private boats operating on the Clyde. Some of the new bridges are too low for masted boats to go through. We have taken gamebird onto the river a few times to attend events, the latest being the Commonwealth Flotilla where we were the only narrowboat among hundreds of sea going boats.
