Any recommendations for lorries?

I have contact details for about half-a-dozen firms but they are all Midlands / North so you would be possibly be paying for a couple of days extra charges due to Driving hours.

If you do not find anyone, ask again and I'll post links.

I had my boat moved at the end of October.

200 miles cost £2300 + lift out and lift in.

But - it is a 14 foot wide boat and needed an escort vehicle and Police permissions. A NB would not be so expensive.

Alan,

I am surprised that you of all people permitted your boat to be carried by a truck that had it's major rearward safety sign to be only in a foreign language.

Hi there,

I am in the process of getting quotes from lorries to transport my narrowboat from London to Faversham, ( I know some people would just take it on the Thames).

Any recommendations for lorries?

Thank you

Can I ask what the problem is taking it via the Thames ? There are plenty of experienced People around to do the job

We took a small dutch barge there and I just don't want to have the stress. It is a job to be done this month anyway, so I can't wait for the best weather condition. That's all just stress

They were going to use this 'board' seeing as it was in the language of the destination country (the land of my Fathers)

"confoi eithriadol"

But thought it may confuse the 'language limited' Brits !!

It looks a nice tidy durable sea boat.

Thanks, it is actually a Trawler hull that was built as a 'leisure' boat.

Twin 6-cylinder Fords, 2800 litre fuel giving a 2000+ mile 'safe range'

Gives me the choice of the category-A catamaran, or the Category-B Motor Cruiser.

2000 mile range and you stuck it on a lorry! :giggles:

I looked at taking it by Sea but it was a 900 mile trip.

Down the Trent, turn right, down the Humber and either :

Turn left, up to Aberdeen, turn left to Inverness, thru the Caledonian Canal, turn left down past the IoM and to Y Felinheli, or

Turn right, down past Wells, across the Thames estuary, turn right, past Dover, past Plymouth (wave to the Cat on the way past), turn right as you get to Lands End, up the Welsh coast to Y Felinheli.

900 miles either way.

Did not fancy the November weather hitting us and having to leave her somewhere 'for the Winter'.

I have no problems doing long trips - it was 3050miles bring the Cat back from Croatia and we did that in 30 days (including 2 rest days) but that was April / May as the Insurers would not cover us crossing the Bay of Biscay before 1st May.
