  1. I think this 10" rule applies only to non private boats.
  2. Me too. Quick cut with jigsaw a few mm oversize then router and straight edge for a perfect finish with very little skill required. Paul
  3. There were no auctions then just waiting lists. We had been on the list for Cranfleet and got a letter telling us that we had been removed due to the reduction in spaces for PL. We looked at PL but the opening was delayed. At the time it was very difficult to find a mooring so we were pleased to get a place at Barton Turns. Our definition of local had to be modified a bit. Paul
  4. Did the examiner say what the battery compartment label should say? Paul
  5. The new company can be asked to pay it as a goodwill gesture. Edited because I am technically challenged. (G&T)
  6. But these Pheonix exercises are not business failures. They are well planned scams. Paul
  7. Rubbish according to NBW. Unbelievable article if you have the stomach to read it. Paul
  8. Another option is to use a mi-fi device as a hotspot for tablets and laptops. Lots of good info on this site if you search. Advantage is that it can be hung in a doorway or window or even with an outdoor aerial attached for weak signal areas. At ebay prices a data SIM is cheaper than most phone contracts that allow tethering. Paul
  9. BW took us off the waiting list for Cranfleet because of the reduction in spaces for Pillings Lock. Still got the letter somewhere. Paul
  10. Subtle, adjective: "fine or delicate in meaning or intent" Most will agree! Paul
  11. It was a few years ago when I did my RCD but I think that wiring diagrams are not specifically required in the owners manual - see the RYA guidance posted earlier. In other industries there would also be a maintenance manual with wiring diagrams, fuse lists, hydraulic circuits, parts lists etc. Nice project for the winter! Paul
  12. The technical file is not the same as the owners manual. The technical file is the working document used by the "builder" to prove compliance with the RCD and supporting standards and needs to include all drawings, calculations, test reports and CE documentation of all components used. The technical file should be retained by the builder, I think for 10 years, and the courts / HSE can require the file to be handed over in case of an accident. The owners manual is not so detailed and is given to the purchaser for operation and maintenance purposes. Paul
  13. Ray, I think the OP just wants to make an owners manual. Probably a bit late for the Technical File. Paul
  14. We don't have any lockers in our semi trad. Just one small box / seat each side of the rear (outer) doors. The open deck is full width and can safely accommodate dogs, grandchildren, a bike and even a folding table and 4 chairs for the summer evenings. The sides and rear doors keep the wind off and we prefer it to a cruiser stern. Paul
  15. Is this the same as the air filter element RDG 5795 listed in the Barrus manuals? All Barrus Shire engines seem to use this same element. Paul
  16. Sealed bids are supposed to be opened only after bidding is closed. Anything else and don't touch it with a boat pole. Paul
  17. Gareth, In between the rain and after finishing the boat touch ups I am now trying to paint the house. The Dulux weathershield undercoat is water based but the gloss is definitely solvent based. Certainly requires lots of white spirit to clean the brushes. Still very nice paint to work with. Paul
  18. I worked for an American company and they used to send an imperial toolkit out with all their machines. As well as the imperial adjustable it also had an imperial hammer and imperial screwdriver. Paul
  19. According to the parts list it is an M16 drain plug so probably a 24mm socket. I can't see the hex size in the manual. Maybe someone on their boat can check. Paul
  20. Evo stik carpet adhesive spray is much better than the stuff supplied with my "Quietlife" foam. Evo stik is actually stronger than the foam which can delaminate if roughly handled. I added a few angle strips as belt and braces. Insulating under the deck with proper multi layer foam is well worth the effort and it made a huge difference to noise levels on our semi trad deck. Most of the noise in the cabin seems to be transmitted through the steelwork and insulating the bulkhead didn't make much difference. Any suggestions? Paul
  21. Products tab works for me on an iPad. Paul
  22. Preaid 3mobile data SIMs can be bought on ebay with 3Gb / 3 months usage for around £ 11.00. Cheaper than a monthly subscription. Paul
  23. Mooring pins and junk should not be in gas locker with the bubble tester because they might break the glass. The gas locker does not contain an engine which might overheat so fire rated glass is not required, Not sure what your point is. It all seems very sensible to me. Paul
  24. A bubble tester is (hopefully) not in the engine compartment where an overheated engine could break the glass. Paul
