  1. Hope it doesn't rain too much then..πŸ˜€
  2. Looks like it has been repaired and reopened now. No official notice as yet but read its open on Facebook and checked to make sure the notice(s) are no longer in Teamup... Too late for me but good news for everyone waiting and finished ahead of time πŸ™‚
  3. I've never had a problem with remote moorings. A few weeks ago moored up in the middle of hundreds of boats in Tottenham, I dozed off on the sofa about 8.30pm while watching TV- woke up to find my Phone, wallet (cash, cards, driving licence etc) gone. All ten foot away from my presumably snoring self..
  4. I'd (probably wrongly as I'm generally rather good at misunderstanding things ) taken the notice to mean that West Midlands would be running down the extra needed to Derwent from below Wychnor Lock/R.Trent. I've often wondered how they work out how much actually goes into that River section and then how much to take out at the other end. It's all a bit of a pain-I might have been stuck there too but closure on Nene buggered me before I even got that far πŸ˜€
  5. I'm not sure where the boundary starts between East and West Midlands is. Looks to be around Burton ish according to the very vague Region Map I have- so below Alrewas might be West Midlands.
  6. @David Mack Thanks for that- I have loads of history on Google Maps but its always showed up as either places or cities and doesn't look right. Don't think I would have worked out your method πŸ˜ƒ so very much appreciated
  7. Thanks- that's exactly what I have been looking for. Next step working out how to do it!
  8. I would expect CRT to either ask boaters to share the lock or put restricted hours/manage the lock with vollies. Guess we will hopefully find out tomorrow ..
  9. Think the problem was when they went to lower it and it wouldnt they were hoping for a slightly easier fix. Looks like it's going to be a tougher problem to solve. Are you on your way back now or are you out for a bit longer? Hope its not buggered your plans too much regardless πŸ™‚
  10. That's a polite way of putting it πŸ˜€ Chap who's boat I was supposed to be taking to Newark so he could spend his (booked off time from work holiday and Gold Licence) bringing it back is less than happy too. Although I suppose I should thank the EA for reducing my tax bill by the loss of several weeks wages this year so far. It is , boating aside I thought, an important part of Northamptons flood protection. Let's hope we don't get any freak rain/floods in the next few weeks while the EAs contractors are faffing about.

    T&M closed

Seem to remember every time I've come across that lock empty the bottom offside has gate has swung open. Not helping with the leaky top gates.
  12. There goes my optimism. Closed until the 18th now
  13. I assume this is all done online and isn't a card you have to order/buy. Very handy if so.
  14. Thanks MP. Got to admit I've still never seen one yet..
  15. I've just been told its the big automatic floodgate (just before you reach the lock as you are heading toward Northampton) stuck in the up position. Seems its jammed while it was being tested/inspected. Which would definetely prevent passage πŸ˜€ Also heard a rumour it *may* be sorted mid week as they hope to be able to lower it and repair it then.
  16. 10ft is OK. Its alot easier to steer through the often restricted width of overgrown vegetation and badly moored boats owned by universally selfish/ignorant owners whatever the beam.Your cabin paintwork will survive far better. I recently took a 10'6" Andicraft Widebeam into East London. Very easy to skipper as it was a nicely designed boat- quite low on the cabin/air draught and the cabin front didn't jut out like the Collingwood. The only disadvantage I found was that you still have to open both gates when locking but unlike a 12fter you can't step off both sides as my legs aren't long enough . So only an issue for single handers with short legs that move around alotπŸ˜€
  17. I don't disagree with that- the front of the cabin and fact the roof doesn't taper in to match the hull shape is horrible and obviously done to keep costs down. Could be wrong but isn't the fact that the side decks are too narrow is just that. They are not sidedecks and this is something to do with VAT/classification and saves even more money.
  18. I came through Holme Lock on the Trent a couple of weeks ago. There must have been somewhere between 150-200 youngsters swimming and jumping off the walls there (its pretty high) at the downstream end of the lock Gave them several toots to make sure they knew I was there and coming through- I didnt really want the mess of any landing on the roof or getting tangled in the prop. The water in front of me cleared and aside from some waves, compliments about the boat and a bit of banter not one bit of angst or attitude. Great bunch of kids.
  19. Lol. As Im sure you know its the standard response. I am assuming that as its actually on the Barrage Gates they will be pulling the stops out as this failure could result in a little more than holding a couple of boats up. Im/was picking up a boat Sunday from the Boat Club at Weston Flavell- I had thought that was near enough the end of the Nene to be able to get through without any closures.Wrong. πŸ˜€
  20. Not always the easiest stoppages to find. Closed until further notice-hopefully be a quick one as imagine they need that working asap.
  21. It eas still there but yellowed /dying when I passed it last week
  22. Funnily enough I was coming down the Ouse the other day on a 57 x12 Collingwood with an Isuzu 55 and standard skin tank. Was working a bit against the incoming tide - and noticed the temp gauge creeping up until it sat at 90 degrees. Dont know exactly what revs that was at because I had disconnected the engine alternator which was putting out a rather unhealthy 15.9V. Soon dropped again once I hit the ebb and never came back up again the rest of the journey but that was a good few horses that was unusable because of it. Of course not proof-it may never have got any higher than that but pushing against the Tidal Ouse and dodging tree trunks didnt seem a very good time to be finding out πŸ˜€
  23. I was on the Aquaduct and took pics a couple of weeks ago. Would check them but some scrote nicked me phone when I was moored up the following night in Tottenham 🀬 There is ALOT of it up North . See no end of the GIANT stuff coming down the Ouse from Ripon and some on the A&C too. Was some next to the towpath as I was moored at Boroughbridge/Milby too. Confirmed by a chap who was telling me which plants were good to eat so figured he knew his stuff. Am I the only one who has a compulsion to touch it to see if I get blisters or not πŸ˜€
