  1. You couldn't make it up. My money and that of many other boaters is being wasted on this stuff.

  3. The problem isn't Diesel engines it's the amount of short and routine journeys people end up making when they should be able to use affordable reliable public transport. I loathe taking the car into town , I'd rather cycle. Only use the car for long journeys and carrying heavy loads. I love a train journey or a bus ride , I can relax look at the scenery and let someone else drive. I love my diesels , I just arrange my life to avoid unnessesary journeys and don't run my boat engine for battery charging. A light and a wireless don't use much power. I saw the diesel programme , interesting. Recorded for OH to watch later.

  5. Not wishing to de rail this thread but I'm not sure how someone like me would cope as I have no photo ID . Old style driving licence and out of date passport in maiden name.
  6. On my list. We lived up there for ages . OH arrived as a young man to join his first ship and stayed. To be honest I was glad to move on because I got profoundly depressed by being shown various heaps of rubble and being told that was once a thriving factory . Pubs were shutting and there was a lot of dereliction and empty premises. If things are much improved I'm glad , Liverpool deserves decent work and some prosperity. It should be a city for the young with a future . I'd have to ask the relatives what life's like away from the main tourist down town area. Liverpool has two teams , not a footy fan but bought red rather than blue cars

  8. Small fires to settle it in, it's still fairly warm so small fires is enough. Doors and windows open. Keep an eye on it , pub not an option . I've not had any problems with stove paint being smoky but there's always a first time. Hope all goes well , cats need warmth in a safe space.
  9. These fitting are popular for fitting flues to camper vans . Usual routine with a glass fibre roof is to put a metal plate in and mount the flu through that using the flex fitting to seal it. This gives the flu a heat sink. If you can get a double skin flue in then that would be a better option in a GRP boat.
  10. Top tip, make up the bed before you go out for the evening if you can . Saves a load of faff when you get in . I've only ever owned a boat with a cross bed, where space is valuable it's a good option.
  11. I will be there , not bringing a boat this time. Weather looks good .
  12. I have to wonder why we have to account for our movements . I'm not by habit a record keeper, I managed engine hours but frequently had no idea of the date all though I could record where I'd been. Having to remember to keep a log would start to seem like work.

  15. Back on topic , no harm done was this time but. I help at locks sometimes but strictly on the understanding that I do as requested when requested by the person in charge of the boat . I wouldn't dream of just opening the paddles without asking
  16. I'm glad it looks like the discs still come through the post. I kept most of mine over the years. I liked it when they were a different colour for each year. Ok that's a bit sad but I'm keen on simple pleasures.
  17. Heating on here , old folks feel the cold and cats like warmth.
  18. I'm somewhat glad I'm not a new member of this forum. Much as I'd like to be someone else at times I'd like to be able to chose and not have an arbitrary identity assigned to me by a bunch of keyboard warriors. Back to the difficulties the OP faces. I'm pretty horrified that CRT are being so unhelpful to an unwell person who needs hospital treatment. . Add in the general harassment of some boaters while others seem not to have problems makes me wonder if some of the enforcers are persueing personal vendettas. I certainly don't have a great deal of faith in the process.
  19. A great loss to his family and the canal boating world .

  21. Does anybody think the compressor and needle gun are worth buying . Will a needle gun get blacking off a hull as well as rust and old paint ?
