  1. Not strictly true as some products are material/manufacturer specific, but I take your point.
  2. I can see that they claim compatibility with "all engines" following a full flush and refill with their product. But just to clarify your post is there a link to any mention of it being compatible with other types of antifreeze?

  4. I think you could have stalling issues on an engine that small; or at the very least "poor drivability" to use the automotive term. Some proprietary external regulators have a "soft start" feature, but you are looking at some form of two channel feed back (i.e in or out of gear) to handle the near 7.5 hp on the belt at 200amp output; can that be reliably achieved with a 6PK belt? The engine would need to be at 1300+rpm just to drive the alternator. As a project it sounds like fun; but not so sure as a practical application.
  5. Further to Tonys post, the small alternator is usually the type with a warning light terminal and an ignition switched positive terminal. These are connected to the wiring by either a "t" shaped plug with 2 wires or a flat sided oval plug with 3 wires. Just need to be careful when picking which wire to touch to the engine. Worst case, you'll blow the "control" fuse that feeds the panel. There are adaptors available for fitting the 3 wire plug type alternator to the wiring from the earlier 2 wire type. Sorry that I gave you duff info, I guess yours was the smaller diameter, but longer ignition switch with screw terminals?
  6. Is there much to choose between speedfit and hep2o nowdays? I had an interesting mix of mark1 and mark 2 HEP2O on my first boat, assembly of the various o rings and grab rings was more or less reversed on the later version.
  7. Useful table at top of this page. https://mobilehomedepotmi.com/plumbing/qest.html
  8. Which is very much what we were used to under the imperial measurement system.
  9. That they use the id of the pipe to specify the size of the fitting, so a 1/2" fitting takes a 5/8" od pipe.
  10. There is an interesting note/warning at the top of this page https://keithspecialty.com/plum.Qest fittings.htm This might suggest that the installation is nominally 3/8"?
  11. For our non technical readers 1/2" BSP and NPT is the only thread in those two ranges to have the same pitch/tpi. The difference in the thread angles, 55 and 60, respectively is fairly academic on moulded plastic threads. Nearly all plastic bodied water pumps are NPT, regardless of what the chandlers tell you; and easily accept 1/2" BSP fittings such as tap adaptors.
  12. At a pinch you could use a fat o ring and a washer instead of the olive in a 15mm compression fitting. The washer is to prevent the o ring squeezing out between the pipe and the nut.
  13. Yep, paraffin to lubricate, and some of https://shop4fasteners.co.uk/duralac-jointing-compound.html to prevent any corrosion issues further down the road.
  14. Best to install this in a separate din style housing and connect the "load out" to the existing consumer unit input. Disconnect the existing mains in from the consumer unit and move it across to the new box. Several reasons: There is no apparent "centre off" position on the change over switch, so the existing master switch in the consumer unit will continue to fulfil that function. The change over switch (even if it did have an off position) would require modifications to the existing consumer unit, such as cutting out part of the bus bars and installing flexible links as required. Not necessarily a straight forward job; and impossible to comment on without pictures of the existing consumer unit.

    Oil leak

Is it fixed? What did you have done in the end?
  16. https://www.agmpartscomponents.co.uk/cargo-180044-popular-5-position-ignition-sswitch-with-pre-heat-12-24v/ also available badged as a Durite part and an ASAP part. Move the wires over one at a time, you can ignore any "extra" terminals.

On a related topic, ask for the coolant pipe to be rerouted behind the belt so that you don’t need to drain the coolant in order to change the belt. Mine came with two belts already threaded onto the coolant pipe, which you could do if rerouting is awkward. This image following lockdown for reference, just a bit of rust. You will notice the larger machined pulley bolted to the existing pulley. Also a more common A127 with two mounting lugs. The original alternator was the single 53mm single foot type that fitted between the two blue brackets. The blue bracket is also the adaptor for the remote oil filter.
  20. Definitely had babies heads in a ration pack, just didn’t know they were called that. Tasted ok.
  21. Surprising how many people forget about the desert 🧈
  22. Don’t know why I gave you a greenie, should be reporting you for mental cruelty this time of night 🤪

Yes, I’m still curious as to the location of the front engine mounts, none visible in the pictures so far.
  24. Give a location, I’m sure someone in your area will know of somewhere that supplies off cuts.
