  1. It says its ideal to keep in your toolbox. Best place for it.
  2. This isn't even clever, unless I'm missing somehing all its suggesting is "If you hold an odd view, find someone better than you at communicating that view and let them promote it" Surely this is what all the people selling the Socialist Worker and those attending National Front meetings have been doing for years, all to no avail. It would be far cleverer to find someone with the oposite view to yours then build them up only to cut them down and expose their view as flawed thus promoting your real view. Of course you would have to have some malevolent intent to do that and I sincerely hope that the politics of the boating world haven't reached that sorry stage. Lets just all say what we really think is right and hope common sense prevails.
  3. I'd imagine you could get a poly liner made up so no need to ruin the self draining locker.
  4. Perhaps the engine emissions should be taken into account. Sorry didn't see other pages, will red and maybe post relevently later.
  5. Bedazzled have done a lot of work in soucing lamps that are right for boaters, their prices are probably not the absolute cheapest but they aren't outrageous and everyone agrees that their service is excellent so for these reasons it is worth supporting them so that they are still around to help others once they have sorted out your requirements. The spec of the lamps you have pictured should be in thin black lettering on the glass if you look with a lens, the style of fitting will be shown on Bedazzled's website. As everyone agrees, changing to LEDs is probably the best power saving move you can make.
  6. http://www.abcpm.co.uk/downloads/engines/vetus/M2C5.pdf OK, sorry to confuse things. I notice it does say there should be an audible alarm also for temperature. Grahame
  7. That's right, I was hoping that Ricco might do this and realise that the light coming on was in fact a generator or oil light. I'm not sure it has been ascertained that he even has an overheating light.
  8. Are you sure you will ever want to tow it? Running a widebeam with a butty would be a lot of work through locks. Presumably if it never comes out of the marina then you wouldn't need anything from CaRT.
  9. Sue and I would prefer just to sleep together as usual if that's OK with the rest of you
  10. If the engine is overheating it's unlikely that the light will go out as soon as it's put into neutral. More likely the light is either low oil pressure or lack of generator. Turn on ignition without starting engine, see which lights come on.
  11. They're 18.9v x 5.3amps = 100w. It says for 12v application
  12. http://www.midwestsolartraining.org/wiki/images/4/48/1401102020748flexmax.pdf Not sure if this will work, its all a bit too technical for me but this should be the user manual. You can always google it. Bloody hell, it does work!!
  13. I'd also think very carefuly before being without a house. The whole of our economy is tied to house prices and boats are definitely a depreciating asset. Historically putting money into bricks and mortar has always been a good move and politically this is unlikely to change, the government is currently propping up house prices with low interest rates and any government which wants to stay in power will have to continue to do that for the foreseeable future. If you have sufficient funds to buy some form of pension/investment which will give a significant return with the current low interest rates then a buy to rent property will probably be a better investment and of course is a safety net should boating turn out not to be for you. This decision will of course impact on how much you have left for the boat so IMHO I'd look at that first and decide on back boilers and cruising routes afterwards. It is a great life though.
  14. The Grand Union between Thames Lock and Brentford Gauging Lock.
  15. We always follow the rule "if no one asks for money don't go out of your way to pay it" this seems to work well on The Thames.
  16. What do you think the advantages might be?
  17. I think you're right. The effect is caused by the angle of the prop blades, if they were at right angle to the propshaft there would be no appreciable sideways (or forward) affect. I feel a discussion coming on!!!!
  18. I replaced my Johnson Pump with a Parmax this morning. The Johnson has a built in accumulator and I was very happy to find that I could separate the pump unit from this and replace it directly with the Parmax, only having to drill 4 new holes to attach it. This meant that all the plumbing, including the in line strainer and inlet and outlet fittings were undisturbed. Result.
  19. Should we expect a flood warning or a hosepipe ban?
  20. Brilliant, didn't see any music credits though.
  21. Shockingly Bourne End Marina is just 90p per ltr before tax. Nice and cheerful too.
  22. When they took the sign down about 2 years ago the Lockie told me that that the EA wanted loads of money for renting the space for the sign so they took it down! God knows how many people have missed the turn since then.
