  1. “.... Some houseboats, such as a 60×12 wide-beam canal boat, offer greater square footage and more lateral space than a one-bed flat in Liverpool,” says Andy Farrell of Bluepoint Marine Services which provides services at the Liverpool Marina complex.... 2. Noticed it told you everything apart from the rates.
  3. Don't know if you are aware of this widebeam built in 2019 for holiday lets. https://liverpoolboat.com/
  4. Possible alternative https://www.aquavista.com/buy-a-floating-home Basically seems to give you want you want without the hastle of boat maintenance and regulations. Also boats will devalue whereas these have the potential to increase in value. Possible team it up with a small boat at some point and you have the best of both worlds. I retired to a boat but now, due to health issues, need to go shore based. All I have is a depreciated Narrowboat to fund my shore based retirement. With the above option you will have at least held onto or even increased on your capital. By the way I have no regrets with choosing the Narrowboat life, done it, glad I did now looking at the next chapter.
  5. I went down the vactan route last time I did mine. https://www.performance-chemicals.net/vactan You might find this of interest https://www.michaeltyler.co.uk/painting-narrowboat-water-tank/
  6. Gives a whole new meaning to money laundering.
  7. https://www.aquavista.com/buy-a-floating-home Just a thought.
  8. Have a look at Lymm Marina Boat Sales as a possible starting point. http://lmbs.co.uk/ Location http://lmbs.co.uk/contact/
  9. I have a Dahon to which I have fitted a front wheel electric motor. This required a change of forks but was pretty straight forward to do. I chose to mount the battery, for weight distribution reasons, on the cross bar which does take away the side ways fold option but that is no big deal to me. By folding the handlebars down and lowering the seat it also sits very nicely under the gunwale. For insurance I use ETA https://www.eta.co.uk/bicycle-insurance/ As they have a get you home option
  10. 6 1/2 YEAR UPDATE. Just an update on this. Had the boat out for some repairs a couple of months back and checked the Zinga on the waterline (3 coats) and below the waterline (2 coats) result Waterline: required no touching up as no sign of rust at all. Below waterline: minimal maintenance and touch up required. Except for one area of approx 3ft x 3ft which was the first area I did and where I had not mixed the Zinga sufficiently, even that area was much more healthy than if just blacking was used. NO ANODES were used at all during this period. Lessons learnt. 3 thin coats of Zinga very good. 2 thin coats of Zinga good. Anodes not required (feel free to discuss just don't include me) Zinga must be thoroughly mixed before use. I used a large crowbar for this even then it took a while. Most important lesson surface MUST be correctly prepared, read up in detail before embarking on the job. Tercoo tools do the job but are very hard work for a full Hull. Hope this update helps.
  11. So What happens when you are sharing a lock .. with a shorter boat that is moving backwards and forward in relation to your boat? .. with any boat that is moving about either sideways and/or backwards and forwards. A lot of maths and invention required to achieve what can easily be handled by a boat equipped with 2 top ropes.
  12. Also tried a number of providers but found EE gave most constant service. I have 100gb for £20 although this was a special deal.
  13. Varies greatly dependent on location and weather. I use android app WiFiman To run a quick Speed test whenever i Change location. For free info on mast locations try cellmapper.net
  14. After renaming your boat you will find that you will forevermore have a constantly evolving todo list which will never get finalised.
  15. Have to agree with that, entertainment program not primarily educational. Lots of issues not resolved, if my memory serves me correctly I believe the roof lining was ripped out but nothing was shown on how it was replaced.
  16. I believe it was. Quite enjoyed it. Little concerned about the pine flooring though. Had to treat my pine roofing with equal amounts of varnish and stain on both sides, after leaving it to acclimatise a week or two. Initial test batch of approx 6ft x 4 ft was only treated on one side and warped and shrunk considerably. Overall though seemed to have a healthy attitude to work, life and family. Edit to add. Fully agree with the post from Barge builder.
  17. Past seems to prove your point methinks.
  18. Found it quite watchable, reminded me of my planning stage when things were crossed off the list, items upgraded, items downgraded, "if I have this I'll have to drop that" phase. Thought the builder gave some good practical advice and the buyer was sensible. Also reminded me of the buzz of launching day when your dreams are suspended midair and you have no control over the outcome it's all under the control of others. I wish him well on his journeys.
  19. As already recommended "Just ask LeBoat" they are the only ones who can give you a definitive answer for your particular boat. However kudos for seeking out an answer before setting out on your holiday. Unfortunately as the answer has, as pointed out, legal implications only LeBoat can answer it. Out of interest my max capacity is 7 adult people. Enjoy your trip.
  20. I used evosticks "sticks like sh*t" from screwfix or toolstation. Brilliant stuff. Out of curiosity I just added a tube to a large order and found it was excellent adhesive.
