  1. No was just thinking about the bolt heads as aluminium is a soft ish metal.
  2. Hi Blackrose. Why not try taking some ballast out of the starboard side and take it off your boat then check how much of a difference it makes to you trim, port/starboard and bow/stern, then adjust accordingly.

  4. I can the horses that were used at Brentford on the G U, my dad a cut hand worked with them, and they certainly were not abused.
  5. I used carpet tiles stuck to the underside of my hatch, I used impact adhesive, to stop condensation, been good for the last 12 years or so, not to good as insulation though. I also stuck some squares of Teflon on the underside of the hatch in each corner and it slides very easy now. You could use one of these silicon chopping boards and cut that up to go under hatch to make it slide easier.
  6. I think I put about 250ml in mine filled it with water, 280ltr tank, left it for about 2 months then emptied it and did the same again, no smells except Jeyes Fluid smell. Its supposed to help clear any sludge left inside tank. I did use the old waste tank for a while to tip the contents of the liquid bottle/tank into if I couldn't find somewhere to empty it then when full found a pump out station, quite a long time between emptying old waste tank. Hope that makes sense. I now have the use of a garden where i can finish composting the solids. Where does the liquids go??
  7. Don’t forget to flush/clean out the old tank and then put something like ‘Jeyes Fluid’ into it, 3 months is a long time to leave a poo tank to fester. It also helps with smells when and if you take the old tank out.
  8. Easiest Sweet Potato & Chorizo Soup 1 carrot - chopped 1 green pepper-chopped 1 garlic clove, chopped 1/8 tsp chilli powder 1 red onion - chopped 100g chorizo - chopped 1 tsp mild curry powder 1lt stock made from veg stock cube Lg sweet potato - chopped salt and pepper You will also need a stick blender or similar. 1 In a large saucepan and on a low heat add the first 7 ingredients and fry gently for 10 - 15 minutes to cook. 2 Then add the sweet potato, enough stock to just cover vegetables, salt and pepper and simmer for a further 15 minutes until cooked. 3 Blend everything, then serve. We like to add a dollop of soured cream first The vegetables only need to be roughly chopped as they will be blended, but may need cooking for longer We do not like our soup too spicy, but you could use any curry powder, chilli or chorizo to your taste.
  9. It could be that the heater has been plumbed in incorrectly so check the installation manual if you have one. You may find that the return pipe from calorifier has not been plumbed in to the return pipe correctly, to near the heater.
  10. Your boat your choice, don't be influenced by others, Your boat your choice, don't be influenced by others,
  11. On the K & A at Bradford On Avon there is a section of towpath above the lock with a sign saying no mooring of widebeams but, you guessed it two narrow boats have moored breasted up on this section. Still I suppose you could say its CRT fault for not putting on the sign, and only one narrow boat. Rant over.
  12. I've used a pressure washer on my boat quite a few times never had any trouble, unless the paint was already flaking. If you make sure you wet the area that you are going to clean, on non slip paint before cleaning, you will find it easier to get the dirt off then keep the next area wet as well.
  13. We took the winter moorings at Devizes Wharf 2018/19, found it was very good and easy for the shops. If you need fuel, coal or any thing else from chandlers Victoria & Spencer from The Boatyard will deliver by truck as they can't get the fuel boat Aquilon up that way due to stoppages.
  14. Don't forget to pot in a correctly sized fuse near the batteries.
  15. You should be putting a bit of the silicon grease into the seal every hundred hours or so. if you are going to change the seal you may notice that the new Vetus seals don't seem as robust as the old ones. Others on this forum recommend changing this seal for this one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/282569986576
  16. These signs used to appear at this location when I was up that way back in 2018, so nothing new.
  17. I have a Vetus 95kgf b/t on my 60 X 11Ft wide beam, its ok but not very good in strong side winds (Its not working at the moment as it seems to have something jammed in the tunnel, OMG how can I steer the boat in a straight line now?????).
  18. You could try Marsh Farm near Hilperton, Moorings@HilpertonMarshFarm.co.uk. 01225 753082
  19. Red Diesel is around 60p at the moment, but it is still cheaper to use the Land Line than run the engine.
