  1. Also good mooring on the Thames just below Osney Bridge and above the lock but, I think, restricted to 24 hours.
  2. 7 days with no return for 2 months according to BW enforcement bloke.
  3. I think it's a good idea for cc'ers who cannot move because of stoppages and for those that would prefer not to move over the winter months. On the basis that they do not restrict visitor's moorings where there is a genuine need over the winter then great. I think BW should cash in and then they'll have more money to spend on the system and there will be a little less pressure to increase licence fees. It's a winner all round in my book.
  4. If you buy it before 01.01.10 you'll save £1,933,400.05!
  5. This biggest problem is that they have actually paid soeone to come up with drivvle like this. Surely a repaired gate or similar would be far more use?
  6. As I recall there are 3 things needed to create a contract - offer, acceptance and consideration. In this case there seems to have been offer and acceptance but no consideration (on the basis that the cheque had not arrived). All a bit sharp and a bit harsh but I guess that's the way it is. There are plenty more tubes in the sewer!
  7. How often is "regular tank blacking"?
  8. Hopefully. But only if they don't find using a computer too dangerous an activity......
  9. What a load of nonsense. There is absolutely no harm in a couple of drinks and some gentle boating. It's all part of the passtime. Inexperienced boaters pose a far greater risk than experienced boaters with a couple of beers inside them.
  10. I think this incident has been badly reported as it suggests that there is a limit when there isn't. One argument for not setting limits is that there is already legislation to rely on in the event of endangering or injuring others when under the influence.
  11. It's been done for years..... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Floating-Brothel-E...2268&sr=8-1 edited to sort link
  12. From today's paper. It must have been quite some mooring to resort to such protectionism... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...age-attack.html
  13. Correct. CC09 just lets you into the Cavalcade area. Mooring, if you're not in the Pool (allocated on an order of entry basis), is along Delamere Terrace or Paddington Basin. It's all in the bumph sent with the CC09 labels.
  14. Couldn't agree more. Here's the clip you were after and it's lucky there were no anti terroism laws in place when he was in opposition although a decent government wouldn't exploit them for its own purposes
  15. Gordon is a Moron See here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gordon-Moron-Defin...8824&sr=8-1
  16. The section of the Oxford between Isis Lock and Dukes Cut is fairly uninspiring and in common with the whole Oxford area inhabited by the worst of the "Slow Down" brigade. They seem to think that there is a way of going slower than at tick over! The long way round through Dukes Cut is more scenic and you can stop at the Trout for a pint! Have fun.

  18. ......is due to open again on Friday. I don't know why it shut.
  19. I find taking a pen to the Nicholson's guide works very well.....
  20. Is there any sign of life at The Admiral Nelson?
  21. As said downstream is the way to go. It's quicker otherwise no other advantage. I suggest you go out of the Oxford through Dukes Cut as the canal to Isis Lock is pretty uninspiring and the HQ of the "Slow Down" brigade. Actually beware of them along the southern section of the canal - clearly nothing better to do. If the Thames is a bit high be careful through bridges and on corners. You will find that you are being swept down faster than you think. Downstream of the lock at Sonning is a good example. Moorings along the Thames are good and shouldn't be a problem at Easter. You will have to pay for most town moorings and some farmer's fields.
  22. "Also (and I understand if this might gross you out) we are somewhat selective with our flushes and only flush the loo if there's summit smelly in there, something kinda solid in there, " If it's yellow let it mellow if it's brown flush it down!
  23. Whilst it seems very tight to charge for water I think the important point in the OP was that the water was metered. I find people are much more more generous with an umetered supply.
  24. Agreed. Many marinas do charge if you sell your boat privately. I had an incident where they tried to frustrate the sale by threatening to put a lien on the boat and not let the new owner take it out unless I paid an outrageous fee. It was said that part of the value of the boat was the marina berth which was rubbish as they had spare berths. I felt they should have given me commission for providing them with a new customer. It didn't work!
