  2. I am a volunteer at an Historic gardens and i was amazed that we were not allowed to make a cup of tea in the admittedly very large tea pot because we might scold ourselves. :rolleyes:We are however allowed to use the variety of sharp implement used in the garden.
  3. I would have thought as there role with BW the quango were now redundant so where they and would at the very least have to reapply for there job in the new charity. It makes a bit of a mockery of them asking for unpayed volunteers to work on the waterways when you see the wages being payed.
  4. yes you have to wounder about the tree liability you would incurre if you owned the land as much of it is encroaching the canal. Is it really a usable piece of land as it looks very steep indeed.
  5. I poped down there on way back and thought it had been cleared but it appears now to be floating and is further under the bridge moving very ,very slowly toward where the canals meet.
  6. To get a license i think you have to have a land based address.I would have thought baring collisions it would be a far less churning journey by narrowboat than by road what with all that breaking etc
  7. Yes thats the kind of thing cheers!!
  8. He does save the hobbits twice.I think that is when Frodo acquires the sword sting. I believe it also marks the point where Tolkien is persuaded that the book should be written for an older audience.
  9. Hi If anyone is is traveling into or out of Birmingham there is one of them industrial bobbins {The wooden things they wrap wire round to deliver to sites] under the bridge. It is the center of the cut by that island in the canal. About 2 foot is sticking above the water surface. Just shows how shallow the canal is there.
  10. i am sure that if they look at picture archives they will find that it is black and white Is there not some sort of written record of the colors it was panted in?
  11. suggest you move your boats away when they try getting rid of the gas, just in case!!
  12. yes! There are some terrible people around you just hope something bad happens to them rather than decent people.
  13. Wow certainly was thick ice round there. It looks as if has broken under it's own weight in some places.
  14. Muddy waters books are also available My link sorry they were mentioned above

  16. Merry Christmas all.May your black water tanks never fill, and your freshwater tanks never empty.
  17. I do not remember the people of Birmingham being asked if we want to become a Dorma town for London.
  18. When i walked from cuckoo bridge to spaghetti junction along the canal today most of that appeared frozen though there were stretches that were ice free.
  19. well that's ok then. What if you are not?
  20. you would never get a narrowboat down there! Dig it out a bit more and it might make a good marina in the future. It is a lot of money for a minority sport.
  21. shame there is not a section on boating sites where essays on such knowledge could be written. The more places this is accessible the less likely it is to be forgotten. The difference between our knowledge of the Celts civilization and technology and that of the Romans is that the Romans recorded there lives in the written word the Celts the oral tradition.
  22. sounds like a group needing to be made redundant.
