  1. Found earlier today, in the Bridgewater Canal at old Trafford near Throstle's Nest Bridge. A rather grim way of finding a body. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/body-bridgewater-canal-manchester-death-12588096
  2. I'm in Sale, and have an aquavac you're welcome to use. Where are you moored?
  3. It's still £40 for a week, but there is also now an option of a 3 day permit which costs £20. This may be where the confusion comes from.
  4. You'll be fine moored up along the Sale moorings, lots of boats overnight here and it's very handy for either Brooklands or Sale metro. Pop in to Sale CC for a pint too, they're open till about half 5 today.
  5. The elsan point is inside the block which is locked so only a chosen few can access but the water point is outside on the left of the block, there's also another water point just past the toilet block near a boat called Irwell. If you're after elsan emptying and coming from wigan way you can use the facility at Worsley, inside the brick building opposite the boat house (black and white wooden gates on the opposite side).
  6. You'll struggle as the gate is only open on match days for the trip boat. It's not too far to walk from Castlefield or just simply jump on the tram at Deansgate Castlefield and jump off at Old Trafford
  7. 16th of June has been said in the email from Bridgewater Co.
  8. It's been delayed again! Not sure of dates yet but have heard it could be possibly February.
  9. It would be in Peels best interest to close the canal as they can charge the conpany doing the works vast sums of money for closing the canal, as happened when the old warehouse was being demolished just before Castlefield. Of course the boaters don't benefit from it as the money goes straight to Peel Land and Planning rather than the Bridgewater Canal Co
  10. I've just seen a post on Facebook that this afternoons Waxi service has been cancelled due to a damaged propellor, doesnt say how though. Might slow them down a bit!

  13. Is solid fuel not an option? I know you have rules and regs regarding the flue etc but it's straight forward enough to get sorted with it and running costs could be ninimal if you can scrap wood and logs to burn.
  14. Paraffin was used on a rather untidy steam ploughing traction engine covered in all the imaginables you'd get in a field along with multiple types of grease, hydraulic oil and general crap. It worked really well but be prepared to end up looking like your bilges did when you finish. As an idea it may be worth asking the steam traction engine people what they use - depending on if you have contacts in that area or can find an online forum? Just a suggestion.
  15. No problem with mooring up in Castlefield (72hrs) and using the Metrolink to hop about town from Deansgate Castlefield station between 5 and 10 mins max from any mooring in Castlefield.
  16. Give them a call and find out 07918 677783
  17. At a recent meeting it was asked whether the enforcement officer has had any form of training etc. It turns out he hasn't and so it was advised that he should be CRB and generally security checked aswell as being placed on an industry standard customer service training course. The canal company have stated that the enforcement officers role will be reviewed.
  18. You'll have problems, he's retired now!
  19. Years ago it used to have a regular closing and opening time but these days it's only closed if they're expecting a ship passage. It's to save money and wages for manpower.
  20. Aswell as various random and uncommunicated changes such as the notice period for passage through Pomona Lock going from 72hrs to 14 days notice, and the Castlefield service block being closed for general use. Lots of changes being made without any notice apart from them sneaking them onto ab obscure page on their website.
  21. Is the UCC dry dock DIY?
