  1. I've never seen them, but I'd be really nervous about using them if they were available for the reason that it would be too easy to accidentally be powered by 220v / 240v / mains (whatever you want to call it) I think I'd be much happier & more inclined to modify the lamp with different plug & light fitting so it could only be powered from 12v... Edit: Have a look for BA9 bulb holders, seem to be plenty available with a good choice if bulbs too...
  2. Rattle guns are great for this...
  3. I would assume its not Oakums that are raffling the boat. One of the other big raffle companies BOTB (best of the best) often raffle Audi's, BMW's, Merc's & Porsche's... I doubt the car companies have any idea or even care....
  4. Using RS, blimey you must be feeling rich 😁
  5. Is the leaking issue glass to frame or frame to hull? If frame to hull then I'd use either butyl tape or Arbomast BR
  6. I've come access this a few times too. Remove as much of the original solder as possible. Reflow the solder on those joints with good quality solder and flux, clean off with isopropyl.
  7. Eh? Anyway, I'm finding it really difficult to follow what you actually want. So I'm going to read between the lines. Brutally honest, I don't think you know what you are getting into, from the language and questions I'm not convinced you have the skill set. I don't think you appreciate how much it will cost you to refit a boat. Even your solar install will cost you much more that you think. You haven't factored cables, connectors, crimps, ties, labels, conduit, clamps, switches, breakers, isolators, fuses, buzz bars, tools, more tools etc etc. You probably want to factor in a second set of batteries for when you destroy the first set through mis-charging them...
  8. And there lies the difference of opinion, my arguement was a cooker plonked on a shelf is not a fitted gas system. Anyhow, looks like he did the correct thing. The cooker isn't conneted to anything & the pipe work is incomplete.
  9. I had a sneaky feeling that was going to be the case, seeing as the pipework is in good order and i do want to use it I think we're gonna have to move it to the top of the list and commission the gas system...
  10. I recently had a BSS chap fail my project boat as he deemed the presence of a gas cooker the same as having a complete working gas system 'installed' and testing it; which obviously he couldn't; as half of it is missing... I explained that as he could see this was a project boat and even tho there was a gas cooker 'fitted' there was no 'gas' system 'installed' and once it was 'installed' I was was well aware I had to get him back to re-test but as this wasn't high on my list of priorities it may be a year or so. I even pointed out that there was no gas locker, gas bottle or regulator. The reply i recieved was that I could just put a regulator and bottle on and have a fully working gas system that was un-tested... I can see his point and on one hand I agree with him... I've had a look through the BSS guidance but can't find anything about testing an un finished install... What's your thoughts please? EDIT: I've just found this: https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/professionals/examination/examination-guidance/decommissioned-incomplete-systems/ Point 5.2.1 Looks like he might have been correct in what he said....
  11. Unless someone hands over full cctv evidence including vehicle registrations, copies of passports, inside leg measurements & a signed confession then I suspect you are correct. Even then if they do actually solve something they'll probably get a pay rise.... Apologies if I sound a little cynical.
  12. Why not just make it in stainless and be done?
  13. A fair point! What's the expression, Bullshit baffles brains...
  14. One of my relatives is a Civil Engineer (a little different, I know), he's an idiot, I wouldn't trust him with a screwdriver! Edit: just so we're clear, I'm not trying to say the OP is an idiot, I was just making the point that no matter how well qualified you are you can never know everything or be good at everything. Water? I thought it was air in the fuel??? OK, just gone back and re-read the thread, not sure how I missed the water in the fuel... Doh! As a test you can always run the engine from a gerry can with fresh fuel...
  15. Aye, that may be, but as with most threads on here, starts off as one thing but very quickly turns into something completely different 😁
  16. I'm of the same opinion as Tony & Mike, I don't see the problem being a head gasket. If you're getting air in the fuel line/ fuel filter on a BMC then for the sake of a few quid replace the fuel pump...
  17. It should be the water companies, instead of posting billions of £ of profit and paying they're top brass millions in 'bonuses' for making money by not processing sewage and dumping it into rivers and beaches!!
  18. Good stuff. Don't take too much out of them, recharge them ASAP, hopefully you won't kill them too quickly. When recharging be aware it will take many more amps to return them to 100% than you have taken out of them. PS. And (generally) ignore any 'state of charge' meter you may have.
  19. Hmmm rather sounds like the stern drive hasn't been looked after. Get it out of the water and serviced properly, change seals and bellows. The Enfield 130s are good sterndrives when cared for. They are a bugger to set up properly. If not set up properly or cared for they will eat themselves.
  20. When was it last out if the water, when was your stern drive last serviced and bellows changed? BMC diesels are pretty damn simple, not sure it should have taken you long to get it running.
  21. A fair comment, but in my defense I was trying to keep it simple 😁 Even then it's rather like 'pulling teeth'.
