  1. Ah...you've caught me out. I moor at Alvecote but have never been to the festival. But it looks like you could have a decent few hours there without being particularly interested in historic boats.
  2. Electricity suppliers monitor their lines and can spot this. There have been successful prosecutions in the past.
  3. A bar in Leamington, some years ago. Two young couples come in, they each order and pay for their individual drinks. One has a Beck's "no glass, I'll drink it from the bottle", the next has an O2 "no glass....bottle". The third - the same. The last guy wants a pint of lager - barman asks "want a glass or will you put your head under the tap?"
  4. Atherstone locks are pleasant and easy, just beyond, Polesworth is a nice village with good mooring. You could stop in at the Alvecote festival. Fazeley is fine for mooring, restaurants or fast food. If you go on to Fradley I would try Hopwas one way and Willington Whittington the other, both worth a visit.
  5. We have a full trad with a tug deck - so steps at both ends. Our retriever has never had any difficulty with either. This is a cautious dog who cannot be persuaded to use a gangplank or cross pierced metal bridges.
  6. I would second all of the above and I particularly like Stone. I am no longer at Aston but my change of venue is no reflection on the marina.
  7. I'm happy to listen to almost any amount of drivel but you cannot seriously be attempting to compare Preston and Birmingham? I am a mere foreigner but I went to school in one and now live in the other and cannot see how they can be compared.
  8. That's hopeless - if you were in the habit of lying then you might be lying about your habit of lying.
  9. Thanks all. I've resized my screen and all is now well. And I've learned an easier way to post photos! Frank.
  10. I don't know exactly what I have done but obviously something. Thanks Heffalump.
  11. No, not Mac users, just me (I find it difficult to post photos as well). You are quite right, I'll research it. Frank
  12. Thanks both. I am on a Mac, I can get a screen print (it is left as an icon on my desktop) but I don't follow how to get it into a message. Also, I reported my OP thinking admin would get back to me but no luck so far - is there any other way I can alert them? Thanks.
  13. Thanks but how do I do that? I'm not good with computers.
  14. My first screen on entering the forum has changed - I no longer get the opportunity to log in or out, nor any other information. Just a page with:- Top line 4 graphics on the right of a black background Next line blue band with canal world discussion forum Third line white band with forums on the left and start new topic on the right then a list of the various forums Nothing else whatsoever - presumably this is not correct, what do I need to do? Frank
  15. It is my view (I have no idea what Dor's opinion may be) that moderators are put under unnecessary constraint if they have to make their posts using their normal site identity. It would be better if they could perform their moderating role under another identity (mod 3 or whatever). This would allow them the freedom to post without hinderance under their normal name and to moderate using the alternative one. I realise that this would not affect you, Athy as you do not recognise any separation between the two roles but to me, it is clear that such a separation is needed if becoming a moderator is not to cramp the mod's style. Oh and yes, I feel I can instruct other members as to which posts they should like (freedom of speech and all that); of course they would have to be demented to take any notice of my instruction. Frank
  16. I have moored at Judd's Lane bridge but not overnight - just to go to Tesco. It is shallow along there and I wouldn't attempt to wind our 70' boat. However I saw boats apparently left overnight beyond bridge 10, not sure I would fancy it myself. If you have got that far, I would strongly urge you to continue in to the basin. This is a great mooring and well worth a trip down the weed hatch (although I made it there and back without the need). Frank
  17. First, you are correct and I apologise. I picked your post as an example of the reported nature of the concern but the bit in quotes was from elsewhere in this or a similar thread. Secondly, I'm afraid it's too late at night (and possibly, too much Laphroaig) for me to tackle the double negatives in your second paragraph - but, to be fair, I wasn't arguing anything, I was suggesting that possibly there would not be a problem with buckets having to be stored and moved around, there simply would not be enough volume to create an issue.
  18. I have to say that I agree with Stuart here - once again you are not prepared to exercise the restraint required of a moderator. Frank
  19. I don’t follow this “huge volumes of shit” argument. I give you these figures and invite you to pull them apart. If I give up a third of my forward hold I can fit a plastic kitchen bin measuring 34cm x 34cm x 100cm in it (I have one there at the moment). This has an internal volume of say 100,000 cc. The average volume of a persons stool is 130 cc per day (**). Add to this, a further 130 cc of coconut fibre (or whatever). So even if there is no volume loss while in the toilet (unlikely given that there is a constant air draft and stool is 90% water) the total daily volume of “product’ will be 260 cc per person per day. Therefore my kitchen bin can hold 380 days worth of product. Frank ** Stool patterns of healthy adult males by Robert C Rendtorff Sc, D, M.D. and Mark Kashgarian M.D. Tennessee College of Medicine.
  20. We don't live aboard but we do spend long periods on the boat. I have been thinking about changing to a composting toilet, might have already done so if the chap at Hillmorton was still available. As it is, was I'm thinking of going to Crick next year to have a look. I have a macerator/pump-out which doesn't block or smell but has to be backed up by a porta-pottie because it fills up too quickly. It would cost little to fit - electricity and ventilation can be taken from the macerator etc but I don't follow your 'low price' remarks. These things cost a grand or more don't they? Also, a fitter at the yard tells me that the build quality of most is poor. Frank.
  21. There is an Orion on AD at the moment, a 66' 2000 boat priced at twice what I paid for my 70' 2003 Orion (5 years ago). I can only assume that asking prices are much larger than sale prices.
  22. Yes Debs, I'm not complaining - you do it however is comfortable for you - I was just giving you an example of one of the (small) issues with your method. I am sure that if I did as you suggest, that would solve my difficulty. The thing is, I am used to just going back in the thread, not looking up another post. Did you hurt your foot yesterday or last Wednesday fortnight - how many posts will I need to check? You will live without one extra hit on your injury post (hope it's better, by the way) and I'll live with the curiosity unfulfilled. Frank
  23. Someone has said that I should tie all these posts into one. However, as I'm new at all of this, could an administrator please tell me what, if anything, I'm doing wrong!? I read and enjoyed your post and would have gone back to a previous one in order to discover how you injured your foot. With your method this would take longer than I am able to spare at the moment. So, while you are not doing anything wrong, you are not maximising your audience either.
  24. Well you must proceed as you think best, good luck to you with it . I should have mentioned that I have a filter in my stove line just as I have a preliminary filter/aglomorater in my fuel line before the 'engine' filter. But you are best with a solution which gives you ease of mind.
  25. I have exactly this type of pump for my lockgate stove. The stove is about 45 feet from the supply tank and will work by gravity alone once started with the pump. So I can switch the pump off at night but leave the stove running (the pump is a bit noisy and located in the back cabin not far from the bed). It would be straight forward to fit on most boats (it's smaller than a half pint glass) and might be a good/cheaper first attempt at a solution. Frank.
