  1. i’m not convinced of Athy’s sincerity in his claims of bewilderment, perhaps he’s employing Meinertzhagen’s Haversack?
  2. think the main problem with Halfords is they tend to be badly setup unless they have actually employed someone in the bike section who can spanner a bike which is rare. I've seen bikes with the forks on backwards! that said, I've bought several from there for my daughter over the years, and then indexed the gears etc. myself
  3. as the OP is so taken by the extra month he'll be even more happy that CRT have made a nice button to enable him to gift it right back to them. first it giveth, then it taketh away
  4. that's a great spot to sit at the bottom of the garden and watch virgin helmspersons bounce off the narrow choke point on that stretch, also just in earshot of the local postie colourfully offering words of advice to those that don't immediately close the lift bridge

  8. do you mean this stuff? We're on our second and probably last lot. First lot failed within a few months, manufacturer said it was a bad batch and replaced for free, second lot subsequently failed in the same way so it's getting kicked to the kerb. Unsure what we're replacing with, but i won't miss having to sweep all the little snapped off feet up every time it gets lifted to access the engine bay.
  9. I've noticed a lot more lapwings over the past five years or so than there used to be, still not in the numbers they were when i was a lad. Often sat and watched their aerial acrobatics when taking a walk up "on't tops". Once when walking the dog with my daughter we had one giving it the old broken wing trick to lure us away from it's nest, daft thing kept it up for about half a mile.
  10. possibly those in managed schemes such as BCBM or Ownashare are bound by insurance restrictions? never seen anything in our privately managed T&C's to prohibit it, but i'm going to have to read them carefully now only time i've noticed anyone night cruising past us was one who passed at about 1:30am with radio blaring loudly over his knackered exhaust, presumably other more considerate people have gone by and i just never noticed.
  11. will someone just post the price of a dipstop cap, the website doesn't let on, and it seems if you have one you're only allowed to say "not cheap but well worth it". are you sworn to secrecy upon purchase or something? ?

  16. just don't be tempted by one of those cheapy mitre boxes/guides from DIY stores, so much play in them that you'll never get the same angle twice!
  17. That nice Mr Ashley of Sports Direct fame owns Evans Cycles, they are now being called out for price gouging as they're inflating the prices of their Turbo Trainers by roughly £150. (to save you googling, it's a device you can hook your bike up to and enable you to train indoors).
  18. Living between a pub, a Liberal Club and a Conservative Club we've really noticed the difference on an evening, especially the weekend just gone.
  19. I'd imagine unless you have a boat, virtually zero, and even then..... I'm amazed how many are out and about in our village, there's been a definite increase since yesterday.
  20. smart money says they were made by whoever fitted out your boat. do you know anyone or are you yourself handy with wood? I've just had to make a new bracket for our boat to accommodate two arms and two pins as we bought a longer arm but want to keep the old one for the members of the syndicate who prefer it. I'm completely novice DIY level so its not the neatest but should work as well as the existing one does as I just adapted the same design. biggest problem I had was finding a piece of wood big enough without spending silly money.
