  1. Not 100% sure about this, but squealing as you indicated is normally a belt, do you know what the engine temp was when it cut out, I am thinking water pump seized. Can you see all items connected with belt/s turning ?
  2. There should be a plate on the PRM, the customer service is very good from them if you have any difficulties.
  3. Yes I have read that in the manual, Looks like previous owner didn't terminate the connectors correctly, ie just pushed them in rather than crimped. All connected now, all working fine, also took the opportunity to install a dual USB charging point, along with mounting the solar panels on purpose built mounts. Look much neater now. Roof is on going at the moment, Previous owner didn't prepare correctly, paint is just peeling off.
  4. Super thanks for your replies. Will be back on the boat later new cables. Good point 'WotEver', must admit, I was thinking it would make changing or maintenance on batteries etc. difficult.
  5. Hi All, I am getting mixed messages regarding solar panels not connected to a drain (i.e. a source to dump power ) is there any body here that can shed light ? I discovered my panels got disconnected ? Not sure how or why, my question is are my panels no good now ? I have heard rumours that if a solar panel is not connected then they will be no good after. I am struggling to find any thing to back this up via the web, any body have personal experience ? I found out yesterday PM, removed panels and stored in boat, ordered an new pre terminated cable. Just hoping panels are not screwed.

  7. I moored at Preston brook Thursday night, west coast mainline was my only issue. Very close to midland chandlers, but then you have thorn marine in Stockton Heath, who I went to this morning, your best bet in my humble opinion Sounds like you have it under control. Keep us posted
  8. I don't have plates either, wish you all the best. I have to go to Stockton Heath tomorrow, I noticed a belt on its way out this morning, have managed to get one, if you need a hand I will give you a hand bow hauling. I am going by car btw. PM me if interested. Edit: Why do you think Head gasket failure ? How far you away from Stockton Heath ? What size boat, what engine ?
  9. Came along that stretch today, passed a boat with no bridgewater plates, and a crt licence dated 2015. It's all quiet here at the moment. You should be ok, when I came onto Bridgwater in November, i emailed them, had no issues, at all.
  10. Thanks Mat B, RPI Zero is available. Very low power consumption. Ordered my self one, Python is regarded well. Good project, there is always a case for recording data.
  11. I think my timings are a bit optimistic having thought about it, I still wouldn't stay there over night. I will be going to fill the water tank tonight, still not sure where it is myself, I did find a tap last night looked standard CRT to me. I think there are two there.
  12. Old Trafford is about half way between Castlefields and Trafford park, so about 30 minutes from Castlefields/ TP. Hotel Football has been built there now, I have seen boats moored there, but doesn't loo very biting IMO. You could of course get the WAXI as that is one of its stops.
  13. http://www.instructables.com/id/SMS-based-Home-Automation-system-using-1SHEELD/ Could easily be converted to a boat, at the end of the day it is down to the electric supply, but they won't use much if passive. I've waiting for a text. Agree with the being careful about how it interprets a text, with built in safe guards which should already be addressed in the above freely available project. Sorry not actually read the article in full but should give you all an idea, if you didn't already know.
  14. Just found this, so another thanks for the update, looking good
  15. There are two devices that could switch anything on within the boat, monitor battery life etc, flood detection, etc. 'RaspberryPi' and 'Arduino', all the components readily available from eBay, Maplins, CPC etc. Even GPS, which you could put up a geofence. If an old mobile phone has a data connection ( cable ) then it should be possible, else the light detection as described above would work if connected to something like an Arduino, which would know what to do once the sensor is activated. Hope that makes sense. Another option would be to make use of wifi if it is available, a raspberry pi could act as an email server, you would then send it an email. Maybe over thinking it, but those are the possibilities, pretty sure you can get gas sensors for them as well.
  16. Costs per night are £10, after your 3 days free. As for the residential moorings, you will need to speak with them, I have been there for a bit since November. I emailed them my intentions before leaving Scarisbrick, I have a CRT License, I have to say they never contacted me and never gave me any bother. There is a desire from the residents of the flats that surround the marina not to have people burning damp wood, I can see that. So I guess peel are the holders of the leasehold, so would have to listen to residents complaints. Two sides to every coin, and all that. I came over to skipper for the WAXI service that has started up, all feed back I have had so far from clients and passers by is good, there is a 20 year redevelopement plan for all the area surrounding the canals, which has probably been said on here before, sorry if I have missed it. It has started snowing in Castlefield btw. There is a plan in place to have commuter boats coming from sale in the near future, the yellow ones being used now are going to run from Spinning fields to Media city, pontoons are being built etc.,
  17. Could you not move it south before the closure ? You would only have to get to the Bridgewater canal, Stretford Marina is right next to waters Meeting. Then your plans could be back on track.
  18. Sorry I have only been as far as Maghull on canal. However, the ship Name HMS Euryalus, I take it you do not mean the one decommissioned in 1825 edit converted to a prison ship. there have been a few, at a guess I will go for the dido class, decommissioned in 1954 never heard of it before just looking on Wiki Edit again, Was you on F15 then ? Leander class, decommissioned 1990
  19. I emailed Peel Holdings before I came over in November never had a response. I will ask around and see if I can get some info, there is a rep of PH that goes to Castlefield daily aparantly. Not seen them myself as yet.
  20. Had this on our boat, get the Mushroom closer to the deck. should be a couple of nuts inside ( usually is in a narrow boat ) adjust, lower mushroom, still get an issue with condensation though. Condensation you will only cure as a quick fix by blocking ventilation. With this method, we stop the warm air, meeting cold ( you can read that as flow, or even recycling ). Keep breathing/ recycling the same air you will stop recycling that air! Probably not post again either!
  21. We had a Mulifuel stove installed in our house, we asked ourselves the same question as the OP. We have no free supply of wood and not a lot of space to season it if we did get it, hence our install. It now gives us a choice which has worked out well, wood takes up a lot more storage space than solid fuel v's energy contained. Same as the boat really, if we get free wood then we can burn that, surprising how long a 20KG bag of decent solid fuel will last in a NB. As for the house, cost is equating to the same I would have spent on gas, but house feels warmer because the mass is warm, if that makes sense, as a solid fuel stove should be in all the time ( IMO )
  22. Sounds a bit like my couple of days last week. I did daylight to sunset pretty much, blacking was fine. Stayed on Idle throughout the cruise though.
  23. Evening, My dog loves boating, now she has realised the bit between 'Boat and Shore' is wet, very cold and you can't walk on it, you just get very cold, and have to get yourself out. Question for all you dog owners: I have an American Bulldog, getting loads of bad press ( American Bulldog (types)), have any of you got experiences of meeting an ABD ? I had GSD before, first time with any bull breed, and I am very happy with her 5th carer at 18 months old, had her now for 2.5 years, I avoid labradors ( they roll over on sight ),
  24. Should never cost you money to block a caller. telephone preference service is all they will use. The people that charge money that is. If you get further calls, get the company name, agent name ( major difficulty ) record the time and date of the call, contact TPS, the company will pretty much be out of business within a week, unless they are a credit collection agency ! Has any contact been made with Max ?
