  8. Yes that does make Sid a proper dog. Greenie for that bit of lateral thinking.

  10. Indeed, if you have to bend down to stroke them, then they are not proper dogs! ?
  11. Perhaps Ike had the turbo version? ?
  12. I once shared the Bunbury Staircase with Amy the Pup steered by the late Ike Argent. Is Amy the Pup still about?

  14. It surprised me how powerful the water pump was on my Beta 43 engine, although I appreciate this may not be the case for other engine types. When I bought my boat the calorifier had just been replaced, and the numpty who fitted it had connected the two coils in series, so the engine was heating the domestic hot water, the Webasto boiler and the central heating radiators. The total circuit must have been over 120 feet in length, so quite a resistance for the engine water pump to pump against.
  15. My previous dog, Buster (the one in my avatar) was an excellent cuthound. He was also a rescue, who we got a 6 months old, and quickly learned all about boating. He got himself on and off the boat at locks and was totally non reactive Zeus is having an extended (indefinate?) apprenticeship. He still can't ignore other dogs unless they are inside the barn where he still goes to train weekly! I live in hope that one day he will learn to be less reactive in the real world. It is a shame, because once he has learned to trust another dog he will play nicely with it, and he is great with people and children. The biggest blow to his development was earlier this year when a local dog walker who did "pack walks" suffered an illness and had to give up. Apart from 5 minutes play time at the end of each weekly training session, he no longer has an opportunity to run free with other dogs, and thus improve his social skills.
  16. Both are coloured yellow on my phone, but I am also using Chrome.
  17. This ^^^^ As many of you know we have a reactive rescue GSD, who 3 and a half years on is still in rehab. I would dearly like to take him into pubs (especially if he would buy me a pint?), but it is unlikely to happen. With a trainer we took him into the Sammy Barlow once, but he was the only dog in there. The trainer said let him of his lead and he made a bee line for the kitchen! Tree Monkey & BSP can attest to his behaviour towards other dogs at this year's Alvecote Historic Boat Gathering, were he was threatening to drown the commentator out, thus had to go home. We also tried to introduce him to Jennifer Mum's Rusty with similar results. So as he continues to defy all attempts to socialise with other dogs (5 trainers have failed so far), I avoid taking him into pubs, because i don't want to spoil others enjoyment. It is a shame because other than this reactiveness to dogs he doesn't know, he is well behaved and affectionate.

  22. Thanks Graham, I have a photo from 2007 (subject to my memory) of the Reliant factory being knocked down. If I can work out how to get it back from Amazon Photo's I will post it.
  23. Brings back memories from my first canal holidays on UCC camping boats in 1973 & 1974. The next time we boated past in the 80's it was wasteland. I had forgotten this scene until G&J's photo. My other memories of these early trips were abandoned Alvecote colliery and the Reliant car factory by Glascote locks. Anyone got photo's of those?
  24. The Shroppie Shelf can be overcome by floating a couple of wheelbarrow wheels between the boat and the bank. Available from Screwfix and elsewhere. https://www.screwfix.com/p/pneumatic-wheel-360mm-diameter/20600?tc=WT7&ds_kid=92700022061887971&gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1244072&gclid=CjwKCAiAu_LgBRBdEiwAkovNsFZjrlL0VuVqkXxI6SlXMyqFDS7SbJ2A1PT9RVq2gai07JpIzmWoxxoCG4QQAvD_BwE
  25. As you say interesting. However if charging efficiency is 100% as Elithion claim, then why do the batteries get warm as they charge? It's a pity there are no explanations to their assertions.
