  1. I will second that, a good looking craft again.

I've corrected this for you Arthur. The first swing bridge after Bosley is Fools Nook (Electric), sometimes the second bridge is left open if you are lucky.

  4. If the company was still operating at the end of October it must be from somewhere else. I passed there in mid July (both ways) and also early October (both ways), the site was empty and derelict.

  7. Those were the days of proper parties (including the party 7's pfft)
  8. They were the dogs, but invited guests only. Warm Hole or Cold Hole, your choice.

  12. Are you sure you are not getting mixed up with Cholmondeley (which is pronounced Chumley) and is a little nearer to Bunbury than Cholmondeston (which is pronounced Chumston)
  13. Last one I went to was Ilkeston on BH Monday. Arrived there soon after it opened for the day in glorious weather.Wandered round for a few hours and spoke to many acquaintances including a few I had not seen for some years. My view is that it was poorly attended, not a brilliant selection of stalls and just a jolly for the regulars. It was noticeable by boaters leaving on the Monday morning, not a good sign for visitors seeing gaps in the moorings, especially where you are hoping to see the couple of historic boats present. If it was a campaigning event, no real prominence was made to this.
  14. Absolutely. IWA has lost its way with these events. I used to attend the 'rallys' from the mid 60's when they meant something but I am certain the events these days are far removed from boating .
  15. Same with me, I had an email two days ago from PayPal telling me that multiple attempts were made to pay and they all bounced. It is certainly not my account as I have several payments going out each day and all others have been paid. I am not prepared to renew when I have not cancelled the original. I should add that I have checked and it is still a live payee account.

  18. Dave & family, our deepest sympathies, from an ex marina neighbour. Joyce & Mike
  19. Must admit I agree although if other facilities are included then it is a bonus
  20. I would second Overwater, been there since January and found the staff and other moorers very approachable along with good services available. Audlem village only a short distance away for a varied selection of food and drink to suit all tastes and pockets. They did not get the Marina of the year award for a couple of successive years for no reason.

  22. At Grindley Brook during normal hours it is down to the lock keepers. Generally they operate something like 3 up then 3 down dependent on traffic. They will advise when you get there. We did it last month from Audlem to LLangollen without thrashing it. 4 days each way plus a two day stopover in the basin. Was very busy between Ellesmere and LLangollen.
  23. Why not consider going clockwise to Manchester via the Bridgewater and Rochdale 9 ?. Still be able to moor on the Ashton at Telford Basin then double back for the climb up the Rochdale. This route to Manchester is only 61 miles and 20 locks whereby your proposed route to Manchester is 72 miles and 84 locks.
  24. And the straps were dangling there just waiting to be used
