  1. She is only selling the boat as she has now purchased another boat for her business Make sure you avoid the Wednesfield Canal Festival that is held there (9th-10th August) unless you are registered with the organisers to trade at the festival.
  2. There were a few in Gnosall about a week or so ago. The parents were coming up to the towpath and grubbing about, taking their findings into the bushes on the oposite side to feed the chicks. I should imagine by the time you get there they will have grown a little.
  3. There are a few good pubs in Romiley. The one you mention nearest to the canal is the Duke of York and further up the road you have The Friendship (Robinsons Brewery) a little further on is Platform One (Free House) There are also a couple of mainstream pubs (Romiley Arms & Stockdove) along with a couple of small bars, not to forget on the other side of the canal, up the hill is the Spreadeagle, an Almond Family owned carvery.
  4. Came across them at Common lock. They had the boat only a couple of days and were pretty clueless. Gave them a few lessons on canal etiquette at locks for which they were grateful and also passed onto them a spare windlass we had.

    Barbridge

Maybe not, of course dependant on the turnover. It appears to be quite a lucrative business being the only decent pub for some miles.
  6. Wharf Inn is a sporty pub with TV's in all rooms and the rear beer garden, good beer, generally they do not do food although have been known to knock something up for special occasions. Queens Head has a large screen in the covered section of the beer garden, beware that they do not accept cash, card only. There is some good Armco just after Bridge 78 (Footbridge) alongside the golf course and only a short walk to the wharf moorings/aqueduct.
  7. I doubt that would be the case otherwise DVLA would be in trouble. You can go onto the DVLA website with any vehicle registration number and it will tell you its status of licence and MOT. As an aside on that subject, out of interest I put in the reg. of an old Ford Anglia (1961 vintage) which I owned and it now comes up as a Porsche Carrera, fully taxed and MOT'd
  8. Forgot to reply to this. As per Google maps the old Wedgewood staff car park is now sealed of with Heras fencing and there appears to be ground samples being undertaken. There is at present no activities on the canal side.
  9. Type: Navigation Closure Reason: Repair Towpath closed? No We’re having to close navigation at Lock 39 on the Trent & Mersey Canal, as the bottom & top end gate needs to be refitted and urgent repairs must be made to the cill. We’re proposing to close navigation from Tuesday 4th June to Wednesday 19th June.
  10. To all accounts it is the hydraulic pump that has failed and a replacement is being sourced.
  11. Artists impression of what it looked like. As was said above the Roundhouse still exists although the canal bank is now a lot higher.
  12. The other option is either Droylsden or Ashton as both have good Metrolink services to the Etihad
  13. Will have a closer look when I go that way later on in May.
  14. According to the planning permission (30th April 2019) 3 years were allowed for the start. The site was aquired by developers, CB Collier Management Ltd. in 2022 and according to their website they state We have now made a meaningful start on site to activate the consent, including; utility diversions, access improvements and site investigations. Wedgewood Marina Development
  15. Is this the one? Just found the details, it is classed as Wedgewood Marina in Barlaston. Application was orginally made in October 2015 and passed on 30th April 2019 with the provisio that a maximum number of boats be 141 and no permanent moorings for residential purposes. Last document on the palnning permission is dated April 2022, so finer detail is still dragging on. Stafford Borough Council Planning Application 15/22013/FUL Trent And Mersey Canal Land Adjacent Old Road, Barlaston, Staffordshire Formation of canal marina and associated facilities including marina reception/facilities building, redistribution of material to form canal basin, car parking, access and associated works
  16. Liverpool was indeed in 1968 at the Stanley Docks branch. I was a volunteer at that event in the communications marquee, long days and short nights. Also attended the Marple one in 1966 as a member of the Peak Forest Canal Society doing bits and peices around the rally site. Don't remember any of the rally glasses although at that time the only glasses I was interested in contained beer.
  17. Not the best example to use. That is an official passing point on the Llangollen narrows
  18. Very similar to Chester where a welshman found within the walls after midnight can be shot with a bow and arrow
  19. If Cheshire West and Chester council are anything like Cheshire East, any application for planning within around a 1000 metres of the canal will involve the council planning to automatically inform CRT of the application and ask them for comments.
  20. A little bit of misinformation there. The pub is actually owned by the Stonegate Pub Group who are the largest pub group in the UK with around 4,500 pubs. The current (new) leaseholder is the Nomad Wine Company whose registered office is in Stoke on Trent. They also run a hospitality business and also own No.63 Cafe & Wine Bar alongside the canal in Market Drayton. Don't forget the pub has a manager as well and I would presume he would live in.
  21. Same goes for the Peak District National Park especially since the 1932 trespass protest

  25. I have yet to be convinced that they are mass produced with grooves in them. I travel the Shroppie quite a lot during the course of a year and have never found two the same. Maybe some enterprising person could take a clear photo of each bridge as they pass them. Will consider that myself next year as I will do the length of the Shroppie from Barbridge to Autherley several times.
