  2. She did say it was nice for the 3 days of summer we get. I was thinking that as well.
  3. Next time i'm talking to some of the CCT members i'm happy to ask them if they know anything if that will help. Some of them have been boating in that area for years. The only thing that stands out slightly is that I can't think of any moorings at Rhodesia.
  4. Yes the lack of dog friendliness was it's only let down. Food used to be very much as advertised. Not pretending to be anything it wasn't just decent "pub grub".
  5. I used to live just up the road from there. If you are looking for a decent pub then I can recommend the Plough in Norwell. Not on the river and a fair walk if boating but if driving well worth a visit!

  7. I've spent some time looking at LED lights an did get some from ebay. I accept they aren't identical to the ones you are looking at but a similar sort of thing. My advice is don't do the same. The quality just isn't there. There is also in some ways a risk element. Part of you will always wonder if the cheaper ones are reliable and more importantly safe. In the overall cost of the restoration is the difference really that much. I'm sure I don't need to tell you but there is a huge difference between cheap and value.
  8. A Policeman once told me that if you catch and intruder throw them out of an upstairs window and keep doing it until they stop breathing. Claim they jumped out running away. It may sound harsh but if you are on my property up to no good then it should be the case that you are fair game.

  12. I had a similar issue in an old caravan. Changed the regulator and it cured it.

  17. It was great to see Python coming home earlier. The Lister sounds brilliant. I took quite a few photographs however i'm no photographer so they aren't the best. I hope Cheshire Rose doesn't mind but I got Carrie Lou as well.
  18. I'm an angler and also a bailiff on the local canal. I have to say I have met a lot of grumpy anglers I have also met a lot of cheerful ones. I have fished from lock landings but am happy to move if a boat arrives and have helped boaters through. I can't remember the exact wording of the CRT signs but it does imply fishing from the lock landing is allowed boats have priority. I've had a bad experience with a boater who insisted on mooring where I was fishing from a towpath on a long straight stretch with no facilities. He could have moored anywhere but chose to go where I was fishing (no one else was fishing the stretch) with the view of we pay more than you and we can moor anywhere. Technically it's true but I can't help thinking a little consideration on both signs is all that's needed. In terms of a closed season for fishing it does apply to some sections of canal part of the section I look after is a SSSI so is subject to the closed season.
  19. Brilliant to see her floating again! Enjoy the fizz you deserve it!
  20. If you are there for the 3rd/4th there is always Goose Fair. Daft as it sounds walking round it early doors can be quite interesting.

  22. While I was away a recently read the Kindle book Canals,Canines and Curry. I have to say it was really entertaining and made me laugh several times. It's about a couple that buy a boat (Akita) and their early experiences. The reason for this post is I wondered what happened next from what I read the boat was called Akita and was a GRP narrow boat moored at Saul. I appreciate that people may not want to give me specific details which is fully understandable it was more a case of are they still doing it etc. Happy to receive a PM if that is preferred. Also I can recommend reading it! P.S. If this is in the wrong section then mods please move.
  23. If it was turned into a beer boat I wonder how the licensing for the sale of alcohol would work.
  24. Unfortunately the levels are down a bit at the moment. That said I saw more boats on the move today than I have ever seen on there (about 8 or 10) so it is passable. Pleased you have enjoyed visiting the Chesterfield i'm lucky that it's on my doorstep. If any other forumites are planning a trip let me know and i'll meet you for a beer.
  25. I can't comment on other trust however I know that the Chesterfield Canal Trust insists that you pass and RYA course (the inland water helmsman from memory) this doesn't mean that non qualified crew and indeed passengers can't have a go at the helm however they are supervised and when it comes to sharing locks etc. then a qualified skipper must take the helm. Do mistakes happen? Yes of course they do but can anyone say they have never made an error when handling a boat. We only carry up to 12 passengers so there is no requirement for a boatmans certificate. Personally I think the requirement for a qualification is a good idea but no matter what the qualification we all make mistakes!
