  3. I had a similar problem in the summer, couldn't find any leaks so bought a new pump for £70, problem solved.
  4. No I doubt it !, we boat a boat from New and Used at Mercia nearly 3 years ago, we paid them to have a full service but I also joined RCR as backup 3 days into our journey home the boat broke down, RCR were called out and after looking at the engine said, "You should have got it serviced before you set off" I showed him the receipt for the service and he said well they've not changed either of your fuel filters and showed me them, they were totally gunged up, we finally got on our way home losing several hours journey time. When we finally got home I rang the brokers who insisted the job had been done correctly and they would speak to the mechanic, Months later after several phone calls and emails I finally received a personal cheque from the salesman to cover the service. They really don't want to know after they've got your money
  5. Sounds suspiciously like the starter motor is playing up, I'd take that off and have it checked first. Dave
  6. Sounds a bit big for a 50 footer !, I have a Beta 43 in my 57ft trad and think it's a great engine with plenty of power
  7. I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, after searching the boat for a leak and not finding one I decided to buy and fit a new pump (£65) and this solved the problem, I was told it was the water pressure getting back past the diaphragm, I don't know if that was the problem but it's not happening now. Dave
  8. I just got one with a fresher up kit, the old seat just clips off and the new one just clips on , I had the same problem but it only takes 2 seconds. Dave (as well)

  10. I'll be in this week to see what you've got left !!!
  11. We had a small fridge on our last boat which we ran off gas, it does get a bit warm, that's normal and it was fine but it does get a bit expensive depending on how long you're out on the boat. If you're out for some time it may become very expensive. We now have a boat with a full size 12 volt fridge which costs us nothing to run as we have a bank of 5 leisure batteries and 2 solar panels, it all depends on your batteries and your output Dave
  12. Yes it annoys us as well and our boat is named after Titus Salt, we usually moor nearer Hirstwood lock but that is also because of the shallow water nearer Saltaire, I think the no overnight moorings thing is purely down to the occupants of the flats but it's the usual who was here first, the canal or the flats Money talks Dave
  13. I had the same problem with ours and I found it was the rope that needed replacing, new rope and it shut perfectly. Try it ! Dave

  15. I have one of these which was on the boat when I bought it, I've had it serviced by a firm call Onboard Energy (Kevin) at Nuneaton, theres also a bloke near Rotherham that services/repairs them other than ringing them and asking you might struggle to find one. http://www.onboardenergydirect.co.uk/ Dave
  16. There's a hire boat sunk in Higherland lock at Gargrave on the Leeds & Liverpool, No-one hurt but likely to be a few hours before it reopens, apparently the back end got stuck by the gate as the boat went diagonally across the lock and as the lock filled the front went up and the back didn't !
  17. I've had a similar problem and after much trial and error I found that the best way when not travelling is to run the engine, inverter on and immersion heater on for 15/20 minutes, enough hot water for at least a couple of showers, (I wouldn't try the immersion heater on without running the engine at the same time) Dave
  18. There's no speed limit at Gunthorpe on the Trent and at West Haddlesey on the Aire (& Calder) for speed boats involved in water skiing and both are C&RT approved, I've skied on both stretches in a previous life but we did try to avoid other boaters
  19. Have you checked out the C & RT licence for a day boat, apparently they've shot up this year as well
  20. It all depends what sort of accommodation you're looking for, there's The Rendevous Hotel, a mile out of town situated immediately next to the canal or there's Herriotts Hotel, in town and on the side of the canal again or there's loads and loads of B & B's all round the area it just depends on what you like and what your budget is, good look with the viewings, Are you looking at any boats in particular ? Dave
  21. We went up through Gargrave locks last weekend and I was very careful to make sure I didn't touch the closed gate (there again my eyesight is not what it used to be) Titus as a 6'10" beam
  22. Why should that happen when just using one lock gate ? when I go in a lock through just one single gate I don't touch the other gate !
  23. I've had one for a couple of years and wouldn't be without it (trad stern) I bought it from puffer parts http://pufferparts.com/ Dave
