  1. Hi and thank you in advance with reference to the picture attached The engine is a bmc 1.8 and if you look at the pic has an engine oil cooler mounted in the horizontal position and a gearbox oil cooler in the vertical my question is is the engine oil coller required and is its fittment obstructing water flow as you will note the pipe work between the two oil coolers is only 22mmand somewhat awkward going 180 degrees as well. I also note that some of the flexible pipe work is not of the smoothest flows your comments would be welcome
  2. Hi all, perhaps you electrical/electronics could shine some light on a bit of a problem. Yesterday I used my Victron Multi plus 12/1600/70 inverter/charger and put it on in the charge position connected to shore power I then started the engine and realised that the Victron was connected so switched of and shut down the engine. my 1st question is can a Victron be OK being on with the engine running and being in this state. on later turning the Victron back on again connected to shore power and to the charge position to have smoke and arcing going in the unit. when I opened the unit it has burn / arc marks on three of the six metal key like components where they connect to a three pin thing ? any ideas ! Finally if all kaput is there any UK repairers or does it have to go to Holland. Thank you in advance for any help or information. sorry I am not good with getting the pics on Regards Andy http://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/gallery/album_1242/gallery_21760_1242_59336.jpg http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=galleryℑ=7267 http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=galleryℑ=7268

    bmc 1.8 oil filter

Hi all looking through this forum I am struggling to find the definative reference for a replacement oil filter for a 1.8 bmc. I understand this may be a hard to answer question as when visiting a motor factor I was presented with the 3 options all much smaller than my original which may or may not be correct My thanks in advance
  4. Hi all can anybody help me on the matter of water heating I have 3 ways to heat water 1. By running the engine which is highly affective when under way or moving but seems over kill when moored and noisy and anti social on a summers da. 2.webasto dieselthermo top which seems to warm the water but not fantastically when the heating is on but I am somewhat cautious to run with all the rads turned off with the exception of the towel rad(presume this to be the bypass rad) which gets very hot when this is run alone ia this ok or should I shut this off as wells or not do at all. 3. And finally when the sun is out the 165w solar panel and mppt reg can recharge the batterys and3 x 100amp batterys by say noon meaning it is doing noting the rest of the day if I was to run the 1kw240v immersion through the victron inverter at say 90% ?efficient to heat the water would this be feasable or would it empty the batteries which from what I have read should only be cycled down to 50%. Your thoughts. Would be interesting Regards and thanks in advance
  5. Hi and thank you in advance. I am looking to go up the oxford canal this year from the K & A and I have a narrowboat with an airdraft of 1985mm or 6'6" and a tiny bit. From my research it would appear that there are several low bridges etc on this canal made worse by the angles and arches relative to the canal. There are two points of particular interest as well I believe nells bridge /lock and the wedding footbridge 131a to name a couple but all the information is not confirmed. Any advice on these and any others of note would be appreciated.
