  1. Luckily, I did pay by credit card and will be raising a dispute about the transaction.
  2. Unfortunately he was the broker that was dealing with the sale of the boat and we were always passed to him when we called.
  3. Yes, Matt sorted us out for free, he was too nice to take payment. My boyfriends mum even suggested we give him a packet of bacon (strange I know), he didnt take it and it made a lovely breakfast this morning.
  4. A lot of our dealings have been with Paul who seems to really enjoy ending phone calls on his terms rather than let you say anything at all.
  5. Unfortunately we haven't the time to go back to the marina.
  6. The engine is a beta marine bv1505. My boyfriend has now put on a fan belt. There was a new one left in the engine room, they obviously couldnt be bothered to fit it. He's mounted it to the other side of the alternator bolt it was originally chafing on. However, there is still one point where the belt is touching what appears to be the calorifier outlet and there's evidence of previous chafing in this position. We can't see any obvious way to avoid this withoit repositioning the outldt. it's not ideal but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. Hi Phil, We've taken lots of pictures. They were supposed to change the oil filtures but they are scratched and dented, they obviously haven't been replaced. We also paid for them to fix a fuel leak in the aft injector. I dont feel confident that they've done this. Sorry about that^ it was supposed to be a new post but I'm typing all this on a mobile phone.
  7. My boyfriend and I have just a boat from Braunston Marina. It's our first boat so we got an engine service done by the marina before setting off. A new fan belt was fitted but we only made it to Whilton before the engine overheated and the alternator alarm came on, the engine room looked a bit smokey. We moored up and on inspecting the engine my boyfriend found the fan belt broken on the floor and the secondary alternator belt detached and on the floor as well. The fan belt appears to have been fitted so that it chafes badly on one of the altenator mounting bolts and has therefore worn out. In addition, the broken fan belt appears old and is perishing even though it was supposed to have been replaced. We've phoned Braunston and they were very short with us, even insinuating that we've been going too fast; this isnt the case, as newbies we've been going very slow. They aren't able to send anyone out. Our journey has already been delayed due to a faulty lock and this is just incredibly annoying, particularly as we spent £305 on an engine service. I'm dubious as to whether much that was listed in the invoice has actually been done. We want to mount a new fan belt that doesn't chafe but are having problems. If anyone in the area is able to lend a hand I would be incredibly grateful. We're currently moored just past bridge 18, a few hundred metres south of whilton marina. Obviously it would be a lot of hassle for someone to come to our boat so I'd also be grateful if someone is willing to talk us through the process. If up you're happy to do this Pm your number and I'll call u. Any help would be appreciated
  8. I would like to apologise to JDR. I did not mean for this thread to cause any offence, as a newbie I was merely worried about the practices of the broker and needed reassurance and advice. JDR's post was very helpful and the actions of the broker obiously have nothing to do with him, I dont want this to reflect badly on JDR or his boat.
  9. Thanks a lot John, I have no doubt about the fact that you are a genuine and honest seller. I was just a bit put off by the behaviour of the brokers.
  10. I should have mentioned that I have a copy of the survey and it does state that the boat is in insurable condition but recommends the anodes be change in the next 12 months
  11. the original surveyor is on holiday at the moment and the brokerage is Braunston. Maybe wires have been crossed as they seem to have a good reputation? Maybe they just want a quick sale as getting a survey actually is pointless and is just a lot of faff for them. Why the seller wouldnt be liable I don't know, scare tactics maybe? I'm just a bit worried about their insistence on the internal survey only and the fact we felt pressured.
  12. Hi, Just looking for a little advice. My boyfriend and I have made an offer on a boat which had a hull survey in May. The survey came back fine but the surveyor was unable to check the cabin bilge and internal hull. As we are new to boating and am in no way capable of assessing a boat, my partner mentioned that we might want a full survey to check internals and for piece of mind. The brokerage is quite insistent that we get an internal survey only and transfer the existing hull survey into my name, free of charge. They said checking the internal hull is pointless as everything you need to know can be ascertained from an external survey/echosounder. They said a full survey would be a waste of money and the seller may refuse to carry out any major works. The broker had previously mentioned that if we had the internal survey done the seller would be liable for any changes that needed to be made, but they really dont seem keen on the full survey and to be honest seemed quite irritated. They also mentioned that the dry dock is booked until November. Is this normal? Maybe I'm worrying too much and should just have the existing survey transferred?
