  1. There are plenty of bins though, 4 between Essex Bridge and the canal, one just past the railway bridge, one outside the pub and another couple just up the road. From the other end there are four bins from the canal bridge to the Spar , so there certainly isn't a shortage of general rubbish bins in Great Haywood.
  2. I have a Poynting xpol-a001 attached to a mag mount short pole which if I need to use I stick on the roof and run the cables through a window or the front doors. It then connects to my Huawei router. Most of the time though the internal antenna in the router are sufficient to get a good signal.

    Wi-Fi

A good router and a mobile SIM contract. Depending on your location you may need a specific provider. Depending on your budget and quality of WiFi required will determine whether you need an expensive router, a cheap mifi or just tether from a phone.
  4. Aren't they similar to a side hatch where the doors open outwards rather than an inward opening window. Just glazed rather than solid doors.
  5. When stationary what happens when you go in to reverse, does it still take time to respond or does it start moving straight away?

  7. When pulled from the bows, the bows will get pulled towards the bank and trying to steer them away from the bank with a pole at the stern is quite difficult and you tend to end up with the boat against the towpath as it moves sideways. Pulling with a stern line moves the bows away from the towpath which can then be pulled back towards the centre of the cut with the bow line, or someone on the bows with a pole and this moves the stern back out as long as you stop pulling the stern line whilst adjusting the bows. It is better to have someone on the boat especially if you have to pass moored boats as they can then fend off and help move the tow line over pram hoods, solar panels, TV aerials and all the other rubbish sone people have on their roofs.
  8. Yes, have one person pulling the boat forwards with the stern line and the other adjusting the bow position by pulling on the bow line.
  9. I would go with Tony's method, much easier to steer the boat by pulling on the stern line and just using the bow line to pull the boat straight. I did a few miles with this method earlier in the year. Bow hauling with a single line is fine on a butty with a large rudder.
  10. I use about 10Gb - 15Gb a day working and maybe a couple of hours TV streaming.
  11. There are 9 listed on Canal Planner.
  12. Talking to an old boy in Great Haywood on Essex bridge and he said in 50 years of being in Great Haywood he had never seen the water so high in the Trent. This was the Trent coming under the aqueduct by Anglo Welsh.

  14. I had one similar to that fitted after we had the issues with water in the tank, drained off several litres of water\diesel mix but has been fine for the last couple of years. I now drain off about half a litre of fuel every few months in to a clean plastic bottle and let it stand for a day or two and then tip it back in the tank as it is clean diesel.
  15. And ripped the side fender off judging by the bit of dangling string.
  16. We had the same issue when trying to book Frankton as our insurance was due to expire a couple of days beforehand so I just made up a new end date for the insurance so I could make the booking.
  17. Is that an enforced stay at the Anchor then.
  18. The Trent and Tame have both burst their banks with plenty of water around Great Haywood, Rugeley and Lichfield but mostly it is in the fields.
  19. I've been using Smarty for a couple of years now for work and TV streaming, not had issues with speed and rarely bother connecting the Poynting antenna.
  20. We use Smarty, unlimited data for £20 and only have to renew when you need it so we don't auto renew every month. I use it for work and TV streaming. £10 Amazon voucher available with my referral code if you want to try it https://i.smarty.co.uk/ptE8nf
  21. If you are on a canal then usually not much to worry about as the level will stay around the max for the section you are on. We are at Great Haywood and the level appears to have gone up a couple of inches but it is probably run well over the bywashes now. Just keep an eye on your mooring lines and make sure they aren't too tight. If you are on a river or a section that may flood then different ball game.
  22. Careful of your paintwork on the cabin edges, ropes wear the paint through quite quickly on the corners when rubbing. I wrap a bit of soft rag round when the rope is against the cabin edge.
