  1. It was copied from the CRT faq related to the new surcharges.
  2. I have a number of windlasses that wouldn't be left on the boat if we ever sold it, there would be 3 or 4 left behind though.
  3. The nice Mr Google tells me it is the construction of the Cherwell Cut. You will find the same picture on the bottom of this page https://thames.me.uk/s02430.htm.
  4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  5. Generally not an issue with a cassette, more something to consider with a macerator and pump out.
  6. I find pulling all the hose out from the reel speeds up filling as usually, somewhere in the coiled up hose, is a kink that significantly reduces flow.
  7. The same photo is on https://www.lookandlearn.com/history-images/M628433/Goring-Church-and-Streatley-Mill and captioned with Goring Church and Streatley Mill. Illustration for The Thames Illustrated by John Leyland (George Newnes, 1898).
  8. I've found Excel burns best on our stove, fill it up with plenty of air and it heats up quickly then reduce the air and let it tick over all day. It generally picks up quickly in the morning but if it dies down too much overnight a few bits of kindling gets it going again. I don't find ash is too bad, tend to empty the ash pan every couple of days.
  9. Plenty of fuel and plenty of air, once the fire is roaring and hot then reduce the air to keep it ticking over.
  10. According to Mr. Google it is... Barlaston, Stafford, Staffordshire. A view of the Barlaston pipeline crossing the Trent and Mersey Canal during the installation of the pipeline. The contract for the Barlaston gas pipeline was awarded to Laing Pipelines in January 1970. The pipeline ran for approximately 29 miles from Uffington, near Shrewsbury, to Barlaston in North Staffordshire. Along the route there were 61 crossings, including under the M6, the main electric railway from Euston to Crewe, two canals and six rivers, and a steep climb alongside the A34 dual carriageway near Barlaston. This photograph was published in July 1970 in the Laing monthly newsletter Team Spirit Text from: https://images.historicenglandservices.org.uk/industry/engineering-construction/barlaston-pipeline-jlp01-08-084420-23828539.html
  11. When the primary school I was a governor at moved next to Portishead marina there were lots of calls for the pathway around the marina to be fenced off, however the health and safety assessment determined it was safer to have a clearly visible danger of the unfenced marina rather than putting a fence or railings as that would lead to children climbing and possibly falling over the fence in to the water and then it would obstruct any rescue attempt.
  12. On this day, 2021 A snow covered Fradley junction. @PeterScott a snow covered post
  13. A more recent image following the cabin works and repaint but before the signwriting was done.
  14. There is a crack in the photo Peter posted
  15. We met these cows at the top of Audlem this year
  16. We still purchase coal and run the Eberspacher for hot water whilst in the marina. Solar covers all electric usage during the summer, but this time of year keeps up with the fridge, water pump and lights usage but run 240v off shorepower rather than inverter. We do use a mix of the marina showers and sometimes the shower on the boat.
  17. Going through a tree lined section in the autumn can be a real slog sometimes, spending what seems like more time in reverse than forward.
  18. I agree with Haggis, this time of year lots of leaves in the water that collect around the prop but as soon as you give a blast of reverse they all drop off and forward picks up again.
  19. And if the boat at the next lock up opens both bottom paddles just as you are approaching the lock below. Most revs I've ever put on going in to Tyrley locks but never touched the sides which was fortunate as someone decided to stand and watch.
  20. I did consider buying a bunch of their eve cells in the offer as saving £50 per battery is a good saving but I wouldn't be using them until the spring probably as too busy to get stuff installed now.
  21. With the horse this side would it need to be a lock with the towpath this side or possibly a bridge out of view to the right of the photo.
  22. I would go anti clockwise as the last few years each time I've planned on going clockwise part way round there has been an issue that has closed Harecastle or the Trent and Mersey between Stoke and Middlewich. So get up through Harecastle over the first couple of days and you will hopefully be ok. If you make a good start then with two weeks you could go up the Llangollen as well.
  23. When we long lined up Farmer's bridge to the finish point I think we held a few boats up.
