  1. A really helpful contribution. If you don't like the Birmingham canals at least explain why. I really enjoy boating around the BCN and cover many miles of it every year. Some parts can have their difficulties but that is part of the attraction.
  2. Looks like a set of valuable spare parts now.
  3. They will price match though which is handy if they are more convenient. That is what we did when buying a new fridge as it was easier to collect from the local Midland Chandlers but could be purchased much cheaper elsewhere online.
  4. Perhaps you need the squirrel doctor.
  5. Doesn't show the banner on a mobile though.
  6. Perhaps he is sorting out the finer details before the big reveal. I'm sure he will be back on here soon.
  7. Saw an advert for it, the date is Friday 13th October.
  8. Not that I would have one myself but I have seen Kinver Canopies fitting a couple in our marina. It might be worth speaking to them or one of the other suppliers as I am sure they know what works best.

  12. I find many pubs we go to with work sell mainly lager and often Doombar or Bombardier is the only beer available so I have been known to drink a pint or two of them as it has to be better than lager.
  13. That rules them out then, perhaps @aleister will come back and enlighten us at some point.
  14. We practice breasting up on the main line as there is good width and reasonably long straight bits then winding the breasted up pair in one of the junctions with the loops. Getting used to stopping the pair is a good thing to practice and how to manoeuvre them as a single unit.
  15. They may have purchased Eclipse and Echoes which have just sold on Rugby Boats. This was the modern pair that the new owners of Mountbatten and Jellicoe used to trade from.
  16. Knowing which pair, the area they are in and the help required would help. As I've posted above I would be happy to provide some help if it is in the right area and the right time. If they have purchased Starling and Ethel from Streethay then that would be convenient for me to help.
  17. Have you purchased Starling and Ethel...? I have experience in steering a pair and may be able to give you some tuition.
  18. And some terribly smokey fuel. Same thought from cuthound
  19. I agree, much easier understood by others to give an exaggerated arm gesture to show what you intend to do and what you wish the other boat to do. If I'm approaching a bridge and I'm going to let an on coming boat through I will go astern and give them a big wave to carry on which they do, if I gave three short blasts they most likely will stop, thinking I am blasting my horn to tell them to get out of they way n an aggressive manner.
  20. He has probably just been told that he has painted his roof the wrong colour and used the wrong shade of red on the handrails.
  21. Times of the year have an impact on depth as well. Tree lined sections tend to have problems with depth this time of year due to falling leaves. When we went up the Caldon earlier in the year we grounded in several of the bridges and had to reverse back and take a run up to get through knocking the revs off as the stern got close to lift it up over the amount of leaves and other debris. These are all things you will learn to cope with.
  22. Don't get buying one before I've purchased mine
  23. Did the Stenson volunteers tell you only to raise a gate paddle six clicks...? This was the lecture my wife was given and I'm surprised his lifejacket wasn't tested as when she did seven clicks he questioned her ability to count.
  24. Like the approaching boat giving three short blasts and then continuing ahead through the bridge 'ole. Fortunately I didn't believe their signal.
  25. I do that if I hear a car beep beep I give a quick beep beep back to see if the car stops. Generally only on bridge 'oles where I can see no boats are approaching though.
