  1. Ahhhhh.....that's a bugger...it seems it's only the "Phoneix" model that has the dip switches and can have the the adjustable remote. It might be worth dropping an email to Victron just to check though as their manuals aren't always the most comprehensive! It might also be worth asking them advice about the genny as at one time I thought they recommended Honda units so they might know if it is up to the job. I agree that the Ctek units are good if you want a smaller charger. Cheers Gareth
  2. Take a side door off and watch the con rod on the piston nearest the injector pump. It's what I had to do on mine cos I have a JP3 flywheel on a JP2!! It then says in the manual how far the marks are round the flywheel....do make sure the flywheel is the size the manual says tho. Cheers Gareth
  3. You don't need a smaller charger!....just adjust the victron to suit the lower amount of current available from the Honda!....as has been pointed out there are several ways of doing this....do you know the model no of the charger? Cheers Gareth
  4. Depending on the model of Victron they can either usually be adjusted for a reduced input by the dip switches inside or even easier by using the rotary control on the remote panel. Cheers Gareth
  5. Thanks for posting the pic of the Portable Appliance Tester. I really need one with a value display rather than just a check light so I will have to pass on this I'm afraid. Hope you find it a home. Many thanks Gareth
  6. Do you have details of the portable appliance checker/tester that's on the list? Many thanks Gareth
  7. We look forward to you saying that you have paid the missing £180k back for the good of the waterways community......please come back and tell us when you have done so..... Cheers Gareth
  8. I would be wondering what scam was going to be pulled next?.....oh and if you care to ask your good friend Mr Lillie (which my auto correct wants to change Lillie to Lie for some reason..) when he will be paying the missing money back because obviously it's weighing heavily on his conscience I'm sure CRT and the good folk of this forum would be delighted to know.....or do you go with the "I'm all right sod the rest" attitude which seems to prevail round there? Cheers Gareth
  9. If you look at a site like bedazzled or baddie the pirate then you will find adapters that convert most common 240v lamp holders to ones suitable for LEDs. Cheers Gareth
  10. And I thought Paul Lillie was in the running.... Cheers Gareth
  11. If wide beams were banned cos they is so ugly then of course there wouldn't be a problem in the first place........ Cheers Gareth

  13. Can I also say top work to Dan and the Mods for letting this thread stand. I feel that there may be a much wider fallout than just Pillings (insert new name here) for the wider boating community so it's good to have discussion from all sides. Oh and would boarding the boat without the owners permission amount to trespass unless a bailiff or similar was involved or does a "tort" hold more weight? All businesses including mine have slow payers at some point.....I must remember Mr Lillies excellent tips for improving customer relations next time I'm owed money. Cheers. Gareth

    JS3M cold start

The overload pawl makes life easier when hand starting but if everything else is in good order then shouldn't make much difference on electric start. Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Well I was almost right!!! Cheers for clearing that up Martyn. I would also check what oil it's running on...mine is much easier to hand start on SAE 20 rather than SAE 30. Cheers Gareth
  16. Have you checked you don't have a fresh water tank full of newts? Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Indeed....mind you if it does then it might be tricky to find where to top the system up..... Cheers Gareth

    JS3M cold start

Not necessarily! The JS was one of the last variants of the JP range...I think it has pressure fed top end lubrication and no compression changeover valves....it's also rated for a higher rpm...possibly 1500 rpm instead of 1200 rpm As for starting do you have hand or electric start?.....I take it that it doesn't start that easily from cold? Changing the antifreeze is just a matter of draining and or pumping the old stuff out and replacing with a fresh mix....use the blue stuff though not the 5 year pink stuff. Cheers Gareth

    lister jp3 oil

Taking the large door off does mean you can remove the gauze filter tho…..its not unheard of for them to have splits in the gauze allowing rubbish through to the pump etc. Its also amazing quite how much sludge can build up underneath them. I have to admit I never remove my sump plugs working on the basis its easier to clean the sump out from above…I agree with cleaning the recesses in the plugs themselves out….again stuff builds up in them. If you have a Blackstone box fitted its also worth checking the bottom oil way back from the bottom of the box is clean as well. Cheers Gareth

    lister jp3 oil

    Fair point! Cheers Gareth
  22. I used to have a square D switch which could be adjusted but didn't replumb it in when I overhauled the system.....I have found the microswitch on the pump to be ok apart from one time when it decided not to cut out...I just took the switch off and cleaned the little hole out behind it and all was well again. I did also have a failure with a previous parmax where the permanent magnet on the motor became unattached from the motor casing.....it did run like that for quite a while (over 6 months!!) until I decided to see why it wasn't making it's usual noise! Given that we live aboard and work the pump fairly hard I would fit another when this one goes......in fact I tend to retire them at about 5-6 years old and keep the old one as a spare....it reduces the chance of pump failure when you least need it! Cheers Gareth
